Chrome/I.E on windows 7
    #14183177 - 03/25/11 06:44 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I had my friend install Google Chrome on her new PC and explained how IE is real lame. I guess Chrome was slow, so she uninstalled it and went back to using Internet Explorer. Now it goes unresponsive and says it has to close, but doesn't close. She's a couple hours away from me now so I'm trying to understand why the hell this would happen because it's beyond me.

Sounds like maybe a plugin/addon in IE that fucks up. Try running IE using the following command (Start --> Run) 'iexplore -extoff'. See if it works then. If it does, uninstall/disable any addons from internet explorer and then try running it normally.

Also, Chrome should be more responsive 'out of the box' than IE on Windows 7. If chrome was too slow, then there was probably something funny going on. I've never encountered a configuration on which a cleanly installed Chrome didn't blow you away in terms of speed and responsiveness in comparison with IE.

Yeah, same with me. IE has always been absolute crap IME and Chrome/FireFox make IE laughable. I didn't get a chance to look at her laptop today when I saw her, so I'll just do some telephone assistance - India style.

Don't forget to put on an unintelligible accent, and mention that the probable cause for the problem is repeated visits to websites with adult and illegal content

Have her download IE9, and the newest version of Chrome.  Both are blazingly fast.  Whichever she prefers she can't really go wrong as they are both excellent browsers.
