Poly Tubing from mycosupply

I'm thinking of picking up an impulse sealer and some clear polytubing from mycosupply to make my own spawn bags.
But I have a simple question; Will the lack of a filter patch affect colonization?

Correct, a lack of filter patch will have a negative affect on colonizing mycelium causing it to become stalled at around 30-50% colonization.
A filter patch'll need to be constructed onto your spawn bags before sterilization to provide ample amounts GE for colonizing mycelium.

How does one propose that I construct such a patch? Perhaps I will just buy the pre-patch having ones 8D

Copper Cookie cutter the right shape and size, and a pot of boiling water.
use the water to heat up the cookie cutter to make the seal?
never tried this, but sounds like a good idea in my head.

get pvc pipe (anywhere from 1" - 2" diameter). cut the pvc pipe into 2" long sections. after loading the bag, pull the bag through the a section of the pvc pipe, fold the bag back over the pvc and use bread tires, rubber bands, or bailing wire to secure the bag over the pvc. then stuff the hole with polyfil. cover with alum foil, and PC.

Constructing filter patches onto spawn bags is very tedious, time consuming work involving several small bells and whistles that'll need to be gathered.
Constructing filter patches onto spawn bags is for if all you have lying around is filter patch-less bags and are in a pinch for sterile substrate.
At 30-60 cents a piece (depending on how many you order at once) it just doesn't make sense to construct your own filter patch onto filter patch-less spawn bags, let alone make your own out of clear poly tubing. Save the clear plastic tubing from Mycosupply for 4 foot straw logs.
