1st pinset/ check out my mystery blob

So these trays are PE MS pf cakes spawned to a coir/cpoo substrate.
This one has been in my sgfc for about a week:

This one i just exposed to fruiting conditions. Check out this strange growth on it. The tray had no light exposure while colonizing.

This is my first grow and my first foray into bulk production. I'm done with all this cake business. It's bulk for me fersher. I'v got a couple gallons of wbs colonizing right now for my first monotub try.

That almost looks like stroma to me. Cut it open and see if it blue's to make sure it's a fruitbody.

If it was stroma would there be anything i could do about it? It's spawned from 2 MS cakes so there should be more than one substrain in the tray right? Is that how it works?

The causes of stroma are multiple, and not completely understood.
You see it most often when someone births a cake prematurely, i.e. there's uncolonized grain present in a non-sterile environment.
But who knows. Slice into it. If it's blue, it's a fruitbody. If not it's stroma, which you should just leave alone. It shouldn't hurt nething.

One good way to prevent mutant blobs on PE is to pluck them as soon as you recognize them. If the myc is feeding the blobs nutrients it's not dedicating that same nutrition to normal fruits or looking to create more pins.
However, if it's a real mutant blob, it's still active and still edible. Some people would rather have PE dicks than wads I guess.

alright well I picked the blob. It's bluing like crazy though, I'll probably eat it in a couple days. Unfortunately i think it's too small for an isolated test, i'll probably couple it with some mushies. The first tray is really growing fast. Hopefully the other side fills out a little bit.

Question: why do some of your mushrooms have a grayish tint to them? Is that due to the race/strain or is it normal?

Dude I really don't think that was a blob. The color is wrong and so is the surface texture.

Yeah some of the caps do have a grayish tint. I think it's a strain thing. A lot of the gray ones seem to be mutants, there'r a lot in this batch. Do u see what looks to be a giant pinhead in the center-top of the photo? looks like its gonna become a giant chode or something.

Is "blob" a technical term? Sure seemed like a blob to me haha. Maybe it's an inactive blob i suppose, but still a blob.

Around here yeah it kinda is a technical term / jargon referring to the first flush mutants that PE puts out.
The thought of eating a chunk of stroma makes me want to barf. Like eating a growth on a dog's ass or something.

thanks for the info anonjon.
the "blob" blued like crazy tho, and felt like stem material, so i assume it was active.
i speak in the past tense because it's in my belly right now, along with a couple fruits. i didnt barf btw haha
112 g fresh from that cluster on the right. the left is maturing nicely. i'll probably get another 70-80 g. at least.
around 200g first flush is pretty good for a tray spawned from 2 half pints right? probably like a 1:1.5 ratio, maybe 1:2
i'v seen a lot of people asking whether they should spawn pe cakes. with the cakes i have sputtering along. the answer seems pretty definitive to me.

Eh, spawning from cakes is dodgy. They get all kinds of contams that land on the surface and when you go to break them up they are weakened while they re-knit with the substrate. That's a chance for contams to take root. I would discourage that.
