So why is it that I shouldn't bother answering? Who's the final decider of how many humans there should be populating earth? Because it seems to me that people who are discussing about overpopulation are just making up their own facts and putting them on the name of science. I am more than interested in finding out how you determined how many humans this planet can support. From where I am standing, the crisis in managing this planet's resources isn't the result of overpopulation but because of our incapacity of properly administering them.

All this time I've loved you And never known your face All this time I've missed you And searched this human race Here is true peace Here my heart knows calm Safe in your soul Bathed in your sighs

Because I knew you'd say something like that to which I say:

Quote:
Overpopulation is a condition where an organism's numbers exceed the carrying capacity of its habitat. The term often refers to the relationship between the human population and its environment, the Earth.[1] Steve Jones, head of the biology department at University College London, has said, "Humans are 10,000 times more common than we should be, according to the rules of the animal kingdom, and we have agriculture to thank for that. Without farming, the world population would probably have reached half a million by now."[2] The world’s population has significantly increased in the last 50 years, mainly due to medical advancements and substantial increases in agricultural productivity.
The recent rapid increase in human population over the past two centuries has raised concerns that humans are beginning to overpopulate the Earth, and that the planet may not be able to sustain present or larger numbers of inhabitants. The population has been growing continuously since the end of the Black Death, around the year 1400;[3] at the beginning of the 19th century, it had reached roughly 1,000,000,000 (1 billion). Increases in medical technology have led to rapid population growth on a worldwide level. Current projections show a steady decline in the population growth rate, with the population expected to reach between 8 and 10.5 billion between the year 2040[4][5] and 2050.[6] Map of countries by population density, per square kilometer. (See List of countries by population density.) Areas of high population densities, calculated in 1994. Map of countries and territories by fertility rate (See List of countries and territories by fertility rate.) Human population growth rate in percent, with the variables of births, deaths, immigration, and emigration - 2006
The scientific consensus is that the current population expansion and accompanying increase in usage of resources is linked to threats to the ecosystem.[citation needed] The InterAcademy Panel Statement on Population Growth, which was ratified by 58 member national academies in 1994, called the growth in human numbers "unprecedented", and stated that many environmental problems, such as rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, global warming, and pollution, were aggravated by the population expansion.[7] At the time, the world population stood at 5.5 billion, and low-bound scenarios predicted a peak of 7.8 billion by 2050, a number that current estimates show will be reached around 2022.[8]

Also read into a bit of Paul R. Ehrlich. I don't agree with all his views but he has some compelling perspectives, IMO.

I will not further de-rail this thread. Food for thought: How do you expect us to provide the amount of food, medicine and habitats for people when animals have so little room they're being forced to adapt to our environments? Where are we going to expand? How are we going to grow all the food needed to support a growing population? Our current agricultural methods are ruining biodiversity, making opportunities for big corporations to take over farming and homogenize selection. Our current farming methods are leeching nutrients from our soil faster than it can be replaced. We could learn to co-exist with the planet but that comes with finding a balance in all things. Having as many children as possible isn't a balance, its an extreme.

Why don't you adopt / take care of one of the many kids without parents? Seems better than making more
To you.
Yes. But too many kids have terrible lives because they have no parents, or their parents are ass holes. The pain these kids have to endure growing up is horrible. It seems quite selfish to bring about more kids into the world, when there are thousands out there waiting for loving parents, especially when the reason is just to have kids to carry on your DNA.
So I take it you only plan on adopting a child and not having one yourself?
I don't know about you, but if I had a kid, I would want it to be mine. I'm not an asshole, I just want my own kid from my own DNA (I personally think I have good genes...)
Its not an asshole move to only want to take care of your own kid. If you're so worried about children who need to be adopted you should adopt a few yourself.

Way to make an idiot of yourself. No one said anything about you being an asshole. Or anyone. The only people who were called assholes were the ass holes who abandon their kids. So unless this is you I am not sure what you are referring to. Again the comments are in response to the OPs remarks to make as many babies as he could. And yes I do plan on adopting.

and I said it's not a asshole/dick move to want to have your own kid from your own DNA, its obviously in our nature or else we wouldn't have so many kids to begin with.
and you call me an idiot
