I am a professional engineer.  Most of the companies I work in have strong ties to the defense industry, and they frown on tattoos.  I am really tired of working for anyone.  I don't care if I have to work harder, im going to find a way to be my own boss.  Fuck the arrogant, narrow minded assholes who run most companies.

I have a tattoo on each forearm on the underside. One is about 3" wide and 8" long. Other one is a circular shape, bout 3.5" diameter. I also have both ears gauged to 0. A couple jobs I've applied for I've been told I'd have to take out my gauges, which I think is more ridiculous than the tattoo shit (hey, I spent $80 on these fancy wood plugs, asshole!). I remember one of the jobs was years ago for a flooring job...Ok, I UNDERSTAND if it's working with the public and some prude thinks it will lower people's view of the company, but fucking putting down wood and tile floors???

Bah. My only hope is going to Hollywood, meeting a well established actor and getting small parts in movies until I'm discovered and then score my breakout role in what will become a cult classic.

if you're a skilled worker you can get a job no matter where you have a tattoo (except extreme facial tats)

i have no fear about getting a job because i have ink on my wrists and chest.

Any "good" job generally requires shirt/tie, or otherwise longer sleeves for men, and that covers the arms.  A surgeon can have up to a 3/4 sleeve, so that's the guideline I use for what can be viable for job searching.

Personally, I wouldn't pass on a job just because I wanted to show off some ink, or a piercing.  I feel that I'm more than my tats and piercings, and they certainly don't define who I am.  So when I'm working, the tats are covered and piercings come out.

Not a big issue imo.  Plenty of professions have dress and/or appearance codes.  If you don't want to abide by them, get a different job.
