Is there a trick to it?

most PE's are a pain to get prints from, which is why usually use swab's

Could you elaborate?

Like - swab the cap with a sterile q-tip and put it on agar?

if you're going straight to agar, i'd just take a culture from a stem

but if you want to store for future use then yes, cut veil if its still in tact and swab with a medical swab...alot of ppl use normal q-tips and they work fine as well
