certain species produce sclerotia (p. mexicana for instance) and others do not (p. cubensis). Advantages of a sclerotia producing species is that the stones can be produced invitro. After harvesting the sclerotia you can then spawn the grains to get mushrooms or spawn the grains with sclerotia and let the fruits spring out of them. You do not need to learn to do anything.. but why not

So is P. Mexicana the only strain/species that will produce sclerotia? Are there others? What do you mean when you say "stones"? --- Yeah, I wanna' try this, just for the idea of trying it. --- DMDave, is sclerotia a good tool in cultivation? Do you use it?

Stones refer to the slang name for the sclerotia, "philosopher's stones". I suppose this is in reference to the phenomenology of the experience, in that it's more of a "cerebral" high, or thought-provoking. The two sclerotia-producing psilocybe strains that i'm familiar with are Psilocybe Mexicana and Psilocybe Galindoi (variation Georgia ATL 7), the latter of which I'm about to try...both of these strains are confirmed sclerotia forming. They are also known to be particularly difficult to fruit mushrooms from, and if you can manage, prints are in demand! (hence the high cost of prints and syringes for these two strains) This is all footnotes to the experienced on this board, by the way...I have yet to try myself but mine will be coming in the mail anytime

Stones are pretty easy. Just do up the jars like you would normally, then sit back and watch the stones grow. I left mine in the jar for about 4 months before harvesting and they were potent as hell. You don't need to let them sit for that long, I've read that a lot of people harvest after a month and a half or so. I like to take the leftover grains and case them to get fruits. I've only done atl#7 so far.

What substrate did you use? i'm not sure whether to do rye grass seed or rye berries...the RGS would be free as I have a gift card to Lowes so I may go with that

I just use birdseed, it's cheap and easy to get. I would like to try rye berries but there isn't any place to get them around here.
