Water to verm ratio?

Okay, when casing with straight verm. Could some people shoot me their favorite ratio's to use? According to the hongus tek, he says to use 25mls per .5 cup of verm. I figured that to be about 1.6cups water to 8cups verm. I used 3cups water to 8cups verm for my first casing. It only squeezed a few drops out, but my mycelium wouldn't colonize the casing though. Maybe I made it too wet. Let me know. Thanks. Also, please state what grade verm it was.

Here's what my neighbor does:
First, put your verm (or coir, or verm & coir) in a large microwave safe bowl. Add plenty of water. Cover and microwave on high for 5 minutes. Stir, add more water if necessary then microwave for another 5 minutes. Leave covered until completely cool.
To apply the casing layer, first wash your hands thoroughly. Grab a hand full of the wet casing material and then squeeze it in your fist until the water almost stops dripping out. Sprinkle the damp material evenly over the substrate and repeat until the desiered casing depth is achieved.
This works well for any size verm and no measuring is required. Some people will say the sterilizing can be omitted but why take chances?

^^^ just a warning.. straight verm in a microwave can get very, very hot, be careful. It might be better to put the verm in canning jars and sterilize with a pot, thats what i do.

kramer says that "verm" that you buy at your local store is going to be differnt than verm i get at my local store unless we live in the same nieborhood
so there is no set recipe that will work for ya anyhow
as for water content like it says in the faq moist not wet
if you squeeze it hard a couple of drops should drip out
this means if you squeeze it and water runs out betweeen your fingers it is too wet
at least thats what kramer says

My friend likes to mix up my casing layer (60/40 coco coir) and sterlilize it. He then seperates about 10-20% of the casing and set that aside. Then he adds distilled water to the rest until it is moist (you can squeeze only a few drops of water out) and then add the extra 10-20% back in. This keeps it from being too wet and usually gives him the perfect amount of moisture.
