Psilocybe subsecotioides nom. prov.
I've never heard of that and searching doesn't give any results. Does the name mean something or is it just a variant of a subaeruginosa? I found a couple a while ago that look similar

I wonder if you'd trip if you collected enough of them and ate them

Thank you! Back to the hunt then. Anyone got some inside info or tips for the Mt Macedon area? Its just down the road and I'm not really looking at picking hundreds.
Still unsure what exactly I'm looking for out there. Chances are I could have seen what I was after but dismissed them! lol

I reckon your best bet would be to look around long grass around trees at like a park. i would imagine there are little bark beds around your area compared to melbourne like me so its your best bet to look in grass. I have found many patches in the last few weeks in longish green grass, you should be looking for a tall mushroom with a long white stem, and the cap can be kind of caramel white colour like very light to caramel. have a look at these i found in long grass, didnt think they were subs untill i took a closer look at the bottem of the stem! Also some dead givaways can sometimes you see little juviniles with a ball like cap around a patch and also sometimes if weathered the center of the cap is like blue/black.

This is the BEST season ever for me. I've found more than I could have ever hoped.
Here are some pics of some awesome blueing of freshly picked psilocybe subaeruginosa picked last week...

The pictures don't really do justice to the intensity of the blueing, it was much brighter in person, and looked like someone had leaked a blue ink pen onto the stems. BEAUTIFUL!

I'm from Melbourne but I live in Sadelaide so i've been following both threads this season. It seems that no-one in adelaide is finding the bugs or grubs that you guys are finding in your subs. Must be to do with the difference in temperature or something.

Insane bluing Therad.
Went hunting today in NSW - posted some pics in the NSW Thread.
Most of the subs I found had stopped growing (had aborted) after 5 days of rain and then no rain for two days. While all are subs and already show signs of bluing - i find that once the get to this stage it is hard to rebriuse the subs.
I suppose it is the same as when you find subs that are really waterlogged - the bruise is much less obvious...
Happy hunting Melbourne

Hi guys,
Cause I'm a little bit green when it comes to picking mushrooms, I'm hoping the melbourne guys can help me out before I make a new I.D. thread.
I found some patches today while walking the dog through our local reserve. They were pulled out from a council maintained, woodchip garden bed. Alot of them varied in size, age, colour, etc. But I mostly only picked one with blueing stems.
By the looks of the images, do ANY look OK for consumption? & would any in the bunch be active?

cheers in advance guys!
btw,
I'm in the middle of a spore print as we speak but won't be able to view till the morning. I'm just looking for some initial advice.

So, I've got absolutely nothing better to do tomorrow so I thought I should get out of the damn house for a change and go for a nice long ass bushwalk/hike.
Thinking of hitting up either Werribee Gorge, or Dandenong Ranges. Hoping to find some nice edible active Mushies to bring home with me
Anyone have any recommendations for an awesome walking track/off-track (I'm not interested in exact locations etc, im more then happy to wonder through bushlands for hours hoping to stumble upon some), just after ideas of where I shall go...

nice finds here,
has anyone got any tips for finding new patches in central vic/goldfields? iv got 2 patches, but it seems im sharing with a fair few ppl, not including the 2 guys i pick with. iv found 3 pairs of scissors this season, and a pair of pink and black lacy nickers, lol.
also, my spore prints always fail, and i dont get any print left after 24 hours, or more. iv tried big and small caps, but im just not getting any results. iv asked here before, elsewhere on the shroomery, but i didnt get any help at all.

Gembrook area has lots of tracks.....don't honestly know if there's subs but it looks right for them.....cold damp and gumtrees. Nice walk and kind of eerie!

the mushroom has to be fresh. remove the cap of the mushroom and place it gills down on a piece of white paper, and cover it with something like a glass or bowl. leave it there overnight and it will leave its spore print on the paper.

@chicken nipples, make sure the sub is fresh, that your trying to print.
@nickyb, They look like old dried subs. But be 100% sure they blue. You probably cant get prints from those old ones. There are subs in there. But i think you might have some odd ones. The Blue stain is sometimes very black, but is ussaly a distinctive colour. Look at the photos in this thread and you will know.
hope i made sence, im very messed up atm

yeah guys, thanks, but iv been using fresh [30min after picking, iv gotta drive home] and iv been doing it on foil and covering it with a glass. everything wiped down with alcohol wipes.
i dunno where to go from here now, other than trying printing on site. picking the cap straight into a little clip container [which iv tried once too].
next pickings, im gonna try printing every cap, and ill photograph everything, and report back about it.
