the maggot/worm/bug type things are harmless. they will exit the mushroom during the drying process. most of them die. and if they don't, they are not poisonous or anything like that and are safe to eat. i actually watched one coil up and die while i was re-aranging some drying shrooms the other day, and after seeing that i vowed to save as many of the little creatures as i could. ive just been getting any ones i see and putting them back in the garden away from the heater and things, so that hopefully they can keep on keeping on out in the garden !

well it really effected me when i saw it die. like i literally happened to notice it just at the moment it died. and it made me think - he died as a direct result of my actions. am i any more worthy then him to live? just because im bigger and stronger? no not at all. everything has the right to live. and so now i try to save as many of them as possible, even if it is annoying. i see it as positive karma.

A rough ID on these fellas would be great if possible (i didnt take any)
got out to have a look and BAM my very first patch/find EVER

 150grams fresh
Not bad for my first find... it is a bit of a shame that they are sharing turf with the redheads now i just need to research a little more on drying these babies.
on them now.... very very good lil mushies.... took me on some amazing journeys

Yesterday I found the biggest patch I have ever seen. There are so many dried up mushrooms around. Are these still good to pick do you think ? Do they lose potency if they have dried out ? I noticed the blue/black bruising doesn't happen as easily. Any tips ?

Hey guys is there any way to be able to tell if your mushrooms have been sprayed?
There was no indication that they had been (No pink mark/line) sprayed, but it's just I found a mega patch, right next to my house, quiet literally untouched in a pretty populated area.

Yip, the bug thing I've been told doesn't actually effect the mushrooms. However I got a feeling last season I picked 2-3 older shrooms and was drying em out with another 20-30 clean shrooms bs next thing I knew they were all starting to decompose. I dunno if it's got anything to do with the bugs, but since then I haven't gone into my forest spot to pick because they've got bugs 100% when the shrooms from the suburbs I get haven't had a bud in em all year. Personal preference but I wouldn't eat those mushrooms or even take them

Jay, is there coloured stuff on any of the bark near the patch?if not no reason to assume it would have been sprayed... Going by the sound of things I think your just looking for a problem cause the spot seems to good to be true.

maybe someone beat you to your patch and grabbed all the msuhrooms, maybe the weather hasn't been right lately in that area, not getting enough rain for many mushrooms to grow, maybe you just missed a heap of them, maybe hte patch was ruined in the mean time since last season.
thanks for the response.
But more so i was asking what peoples opinion was of the mornington peninsula this season.
