I find going later with a torch to be better for picking, no people around (usually). Not so good for finding new patches though.

Picked my little monters today. I've been watching them develop for a week, right in the main fucking st of a town I live near. I can't believe no one else spotted them. I have some pics but I can't find the bloody cord to put them on the comp. Will post them up as soon as I find it.
They look very similar to the pictures Dosileflynn put up earlier of the mushrooms with the very dark caps.

last 3 photos are not subs mate... not for eating! mushrooms in photos 1 and 2 look like subs, but some appear a bit too orange as well... I would really scour your finds one by one and throw out anything suspect looking

Wow I'm gone for a couple of days and there are heaps of awesome finds here! I think this has motivated me to go out and check a patch I've heard about right now, it's never too early in the morning

I created a cheap and easy chamber the other day which I placed over a heating duct, worked very well. I think I may need a smaller fan though so the heat stays in the box longer. I close the lid once the mushrooms are on the rack. You can see the slotted vents near the bottom in the third pic. However this still didn't COMPLETELY dry the mushrooms. A desiccant tray/addition is definitely in sight for a future project

Hope everyone's enjoying the season so far
I sort of kicked myself in the balls the other night, didn't plan very well and wasn't prepared for the trip I had. I thought I would be able to handle it based on my experience, ate about 30 dried shrooms out in the forest by myself, it got dark, cold and wet and I'd never been to that level before. I guess I can only say this time to learn from experiences, so just a word of caution to others to make sure they take care while tripping/planning an intense trip.

Thanks Anarkiz! I got an oven tray, some paper toweling a plastic box and a towel and made a drying chamber over a heater vent. Hopefully it should work. Others have dried cracker-dry from just sitting on paper towel over the heater, so hopefully tonight I'll get home to this mob:

Completely, cracker dry!
HURRAH!
And, I know those moments of almost-arrogance toward tripping.. "I'll be fine!", you think... then you dose yourself high and BAM FUCK SHIT!
hehe.. at least you learnt something ;-)

hehehe.. I reckon I know where that pic was taken..
Probably transplanted there by students too. I just put some mycellium bark into my back yard, in the hopes that in years to come, it'll collonise and fruit! Gonna be doing a bit of that this season I reckon, in places where I think there should be more mushrooms...

Spreadin' the love! I really want to start doing it as well. Time to jump into the books to find the most effective method. Prepare to be inoculated Victoria! The Vic Guerilla Sub-Inoculators
Some nice patches there citizensnips.
A friend of mine recently discovered a large patch of mature subs growing alongside a road but didn't have the time to pick them when he discovered them. A day later he went back to check and council workers were spraying weed killer along the roads and covered the mushrooms. He said he was more upset about that than his girlfriend dumping him the same day

My ex who im still friends with works at Monash Uni Clayton campus in Vic, when i catch up with her for lunch there i scour the garden beds, they're riddled with subs. I don't touch em but a heads up for anyone who frequents the place.

Good method for drying, thats for sure. However i think mine is far easier and trumps this, however has a few prerequisites :P.
If you have a front loader dryer, a relatively modern one, most will come with a rack that is used to dry shoes. It doesn't spin, it sits in the middle and stays still whilst the dryer spins. I layer the rack with newspaper, place the mushrooms on the rack and they're cracker dry within 45 mins. Easy!
As i said though, not everyone will be privy to a modern dryer but if you are, try it out for sure.

in regards to tolerance,
on friday night i had 2grams dry. had an intense trip.
i know there is a short term tolerance build up so last night i doubled and had 4 or there abouts (i eyed it out)
i felt NOTHING!
could it be possible my batch lost ALL of its potency? I choppe them up with scissors and then stored them in a plastic sandwich zip lock bag away from heat and light.
