Been having nightly mushroom dreams, just cant seem to get out for a hunt. too many domestic duties.
Nice patch Horrie, had one just like it. the whole thing got washed away in the summer rain. Wet weather systems can be a mixed blessing

Hey All, Went on my first hunt today, been trying to get during the week but too hard with work.
So had a 4 hour search @ 4+ locations, just been finding parkland's around my area on the GPS (SE Melb) and searching, here are my findings.
#1
My First location was terrible, no shrooms of any kind, incorrect habitat. So then moved to my second, where i found these near the path.

#2
Giving me hope i pushed deeper into the bush and found these growing everywhere,

I got really excited from afar but once closer was disappointed, a look-alike....Galerinas?
#3
After the sadness of the look-alike's I moved on once again, No luck again but found these magic beast's....

Apart from being a bit bumed for not find any subs (seeing as lots of ppl are find patches) It was a beautiful walk and enjoyable hunt. Back home for mothers day now (West Sub) so might have another hunt in the morning... kinda addictive this hunting game.

Anyone looking for an ID should start a new thread. The season thread is meant for confirmed finds. You will get more identifiers looking at your unknowns (and a better chance at identifying them) if you start an ID request thread.
@psymd: your mushrooms are a Cortinarius sp.
@icshrooms: #1 is probably a Gymnopus sp., #2 is a Cortinarius sp. and #3 is Amanita muscaria

Hopefully i didnt raid a patch you frequent mate! it was in the ringwood area, i left around half so hopefully more pop up. Im still yet to find a decent bush patch i struggle to find subs in the sticks i musnt be looking hard enough.
On another not i road tested some of yesterdays haul last night with my mates, a few first timers. I must say it was a great night, watching a mate spend about 15 Min's having his mind blown by the contents of my kitchen cupboard and the smell of the spices in it was a classic moment hahah
I dried the rest i pick in the dehydrator though that is my first time doing it so im not sure it i dried them enough/too much. ill know in a few weeks i guess when i try some!

All I have been finding lately are those red/orangey ones. Surely subs would grow near them? Would up in the mountains be a good place to look?

Just dry them until where the stem meets the cap snaps off and doesn't bend. Some will dry faster than others, so just keep an eye on them - store well in a container, not ziploc bags
Also - YAY, it's raining :P I'm gonna go walk through some parks tomorrow!

Had a great hunt yesterday in the bush, woke up too late but still managed to get some decent light:
A sub hiding under a log...

Found a nice bunch here

This one was massive, hiding under gum tree bark

Yellow

A bunch of scattered subs

It seems that we need more rain, some subs are just drying up in the bush

My final haul... probably 40 grams in dry weight at least, or more

Happy hunting!
