I think i will start searching for some subs in the usual spots after Wednesday. Anyone else had any **** in the more suburban areas of Melbourne? Ps, I'm new here as a poster, but have been regularly viewing the forums for a while now
mod edit:
Do not ask about current finds in your area. These posts have been flooding the forum for years. If you're curious about if mushrooms are growing in your area, get out there and look! Mushrooms don't read the books. Sometimes they fruit outside of season. There is no set date for any season, only vast generalizations. Your best bet is that if it's close to the season for the mushroom you are looking for and its been raining, you just might find some.

Mod edit: Do not make threads or posts discussing or reporting the weather. This includes complaining about the weather, asking if the current weather is "good for shrooms", or how long to wait after rain fall to go hunting. As a general rule of thumb, if it has rained within the last 1-10 days, and the temperatures are correct for the type of mushroom you're looking for, and the time of year is correct then it is very likely that the mushroom you are looking for is growing.

Hi everyone! Found this lone ranger on the trails this morning.
Didn't have my camera with me so all I have is this crappy camera phone picture.

Hey guys, its great that you are going hunting, but if everyone announced that they were going hunting before they left the forum would be full of just hunting announcments.
You don't need to announce when you are going out. Instead please post pictures when you get back.

Looks like P. subaeruginosa to me. The stems get that way sometimes, particularly when waterlogged. He should make sure there is blue bruising to be certain.
Same thing can be seen in this pic (lower half of the stipe)

yes, i've noticed that too, sometimes the stems can look a little bit brownish in certain types of light. It's usually pretty obvious that its a sub in person though. The blueing is obviously also a great indicator too.

Certainly looks like subaeruginosa but I am not positive without seeing more photos, bruising colour + gill colour? When in doubt take a spore print (purplish brown), + some blue bruising should be evident on the stem or edge of cap.
Environment certainly causes discolouration of the stem, clay / dark soils especially

Just do your research dude and make sure you know what your looking for exactly. There are certain types of mushrooms out there that look almost exactly the same as the magic ones that are POISONOUS, that cause LIVER FAILURE AND CAN BE FATAL...there are also some look alike that will make you projectile puke and shit liquid for 24 hours. Be careful.

Went for a hunt yesterday afternoon, and I have to say I got extremely lucky. Found about 30+ subbs.
The season has begun.
Found them on this kind of area, near a river.

This was the first one I picked.

Sorry about not taking a picture of all of them, I forgot.

Ah HA!
I had that familiar mushroom dream the other night. That coupled with the mega rain we had last night got me thinking: I should check the Shroomery.
Lo and Behold there's finds already! I didn't think it was cold enough but I've been known to be wrong before
Good to see some familiar faces from last year and some new ones as well.
All the best of luck this season dudes.
PS. I had a little of last season's stash the other night at a warehouse party. Still potent.

Woah dude I see a pot plant! Bottom right.
I went for a 1hour hunt just then, found nothing! I think it was to dry .. Anyway I went hunting at a new place, it had heaps of medium sized pine trees a few big gums now and then which had bark all around the bases. The ussual Aussie outback..

So it begins again...
Some wet parts of the eastern burbs are already fruiting and so are higher altitudes such as the Dandenong and Yarra ranges which tend to have the right temps earlier in the season.
In comparison to last year (finds in late March) the season was pushed back a week or two due to the recent warm spell but, from here on in it should be prime sub producing conditions.
Will post pics when my mega patches get their act together

I am yet to find a patch How long does it take for a sub to mature? And what are the perfect temps for fruiting? I'm trying to figure when the subs will start showing up :/
