a lot stumpier than ones ive found before, possibly Psilocybe cyanescens? They were in the typical pile o pine needles, just yeah, quite stumpy.

They certainly smell just like subs
And as gandalf said, "when in doubt, follow your nose"...after waiting for prints
i dunno they do look pretty weird though, its hard to get the colours to come through properly with my phone camera

Bruise them, and see if the bluing comes up in the spots you dammaged them. Just to be sure it isnt something else, like paint, poison, radioactive rat piss, etc etc
Anyway, You might want to make a ID request, the pro's over there know their stuff

yeah they def dont look like subs, the cap and gills look to off. i dont hunt anything else except subs so i not sure if they are any other active mushroom. but to me those stains look like spray or something, i dont know how it would get on gills and everything too but thats just my 2 cents worth.

Last time I checked we don't get cyanescens in Vic. If you want a quicker reply create a proper ID request thread in the forums like Locky said.
But yeah if you pinch them in a couple of places and you can see a blue-ish colour, and the spore prints turn out dark purple-brown then you should be set to go (to space).
Also, don't rip them out of the ground like you have done, use your finger nails to tear them off at ground level or use scissors. Tearing them out will only damage the patch and result in less shrooms growing later

ah balingup, every west aussie tripper's nirvana... miss that joint a lot, except for the fact that the local constabulary are onto it and hide round corners! My first season in melbs too man, still getting schooled up but getting pretty good at this ID thing. Keep at it and keep your eyes peeled!

Do it and film yourself so we can observe results.
The hunt today was a failure, mushrooms are now popping up but I found no subs at all. Rain is forecast for the rest of the week so hopefully that will get them growing.
