Dead grain spawn using bag tek?

First off, let me say thank you to the shroomery and all who contributed! I've spent endless hours lurking the forum, just never got around to introducing myself . I had decided to go with the spawn to bag tek, (not anyone in particulars) and noticed after a couple days on the lower part of the bag that my grain spawn is inactive. What's the deal? I cut an inch square in these gusseted bags and use a homemade micro pore patch. I've tried many different species and variations of this method, but I still end up with the same results.
I haven't had any problems as far as contams on the grain spawn, I just feel that its more susceptible and colonization could be quicker. Any ideas are greatly appreciated, thanks again everyone!!

Got any pics? Stalled colonization like that usually indicates contam, maybe bacteria or something hard to spot. I suppose it could also be a problem of air exchange where the bottom is getting smothered. I've never seen that but I've only ever used the bags with built in filters.
The fact that you've tried this many time and with different species and you get the same results tells me it's probably not contams. Have you ever tried breaking up the grain spawn in the bag? Similar to how you would shake a grain jar?
And just so we're clear you are talking about making a grain to grain transfer from a jar of spawn to a larger bag of spawn right?

Pics would help, but sounds like too much water left in the grain.

Sorry I should of taken a pic before I mixed it up again. I'm spawning to an all wood substrate, and I usually shake my grain spawn and wait a few days to heal. Instead of supplementing I just up the grain spawn. No visible puddling on either grain jars or the bag sub. Thanks for the replies!! The bags I have now are oyster so I should be able to get a pic in a few days..

This is a very bad idea.
The purpose of the bran supplementation with sawdust is to help speed up colonization, and then be consumed by the time fruiting comes. Just using extra grains in non-supplemented sawdust will result in much slower colonization, and also with extra nutrients later which will impede fruiting. RR

Explains the reason why my lions mane bags don't do shit, Thanks for the post! In my experience (which far exceeds my post counter ) I like pasteurization vs. sterilization, its also a lot easier for me. Guess I'll have to pick up a bigger PC and stop trying shortcuts..
Any advice on those bags? Is my spawn suffocating? I probably will need thicker mil for the PC but I would prefer to keep making my own type of filter patch if possible.
