I can't seem to find anything more then clames that the cottony type of myc isn't as good. Rhizo does knot up faster and Stamets says that they fruit more but nothing in the way of ammounts. I've seen cottony cakes put out ok so don't sweat it.

All my friend has found is that if it is rizo it grows faster and stonger. But he has had great success with fluffy mycilium too. But in his opinion if you have rizo's at the beginning you have a better chance of everything going as planned. But both work well. So dont sweet it, it still can grow rizo's my friend started with fluffy mycilium and after he cased it, it went all rizo so either way you are fine. Good luck

Same here, I just recently cased a quart jar of some rather cottony myc, it has since raped my casing layer and has some really cool looking rhizos, I hope it pins soon!!!! I would post some pics, but I bet the server is still getting upgraded.

Why does "cotton" like mycellium occur? Thank you.

IMO I think that maybe its just not to strong so it stays fluffy. When the rizo's come after awhile I think its because it has picked up strenght. I think thats why people isolate on agar untill they get good rizo's and then use that agar. People claim that its stronger and works allot better and faster. But this is all speculation. A hypothisis if you will.
