I don't play but I've owned a few over the years for some reason or another. Hohner is a decent brand that won't cost you a lot. In fact, harmonica's are relatively inexpensive in general. Like any other musical instrument I would recommend that you get something basic to start with and then see where it leads you. Go down to your music shop and see what they have. Your biggest decision atm will be which key to get as they come in a wide range of keys. Good luck with it. It will be fun.

I have a Manji, Hohner Special 20, and Golden Harmony. They are all pretty cheap, my favorite is the Hohner - You can really bend notes and get a crisp bluesy sound from it. The Golden Harmonies are more for a folksy, full sound. I like the Manji a lot, too, but it's broken down over time. The Hohners only cost like 20, 30 dollars and last a good while.
A fun thing to do with harmonicas is to suck in like you are drinking a milkshake through a straw while tilting the back of the harmonica up towards your nose. When you get really good at bending it sounds cool. I'm not really good at harmonica but I've been going for about a year now and you really do pick it up fast.

I knew a harp player that kept his various harmonicas in a custom made bandoleer across his chest. Looked pretty cool on stage. He mainly used C and G though ... . . .

You're probably going to want a few harmonicas in different keys.
I bout a few semi cheap ones, and a neck stand thing to play with guitar.
It might be fun to try a chromatic harmonica but i imagine that would take some skills.

alright, i just picked up a hohner blues harp ms key of C for 30 bux. not bad. i ordered this set on ebay as well. i couldnt wait to get started tho. i wonder if the music store will take back the one i just bought when i get the others in the mail. lol. anyway, now its time to get crackin. i realy wana play the blues more than anything, but i guess it will fare me well enough to just start with the basics eh? anyone that plays have suggestions on a route to take in learning? like, should i just try start playing lil diddys? or can i go straight to learning the blues? if you play, what was the best way you came along with it. im watching some videos on youtube, and i know its gonna take time. i just wish i had someone in front of me to teach me in person. the music shop by me doesnt have anyone to do lessons for it. any suggestions?

You can do it. All the harp players that I know are self taught and a few are genuinely great at it. Play until your lips bleed and you'll know that you're on to something. Play along with some good blues and sooner or later you'll start to feel things falling into place.

i always feel like people are lazy when they a harmonica that is a certain key
i got a chromatic, sure it took a little longer to learn, but it sounds great, if not better, and i can play it any key
forgot the brand, but you can do whatever you want

I have a Hohner Pro Harp in C and a Lee Oskar in A. I gotta say, I LOVE the Oskar. When I'm not lazy I'm going to grab an Oskar in C I think and just use my Hohner as a sex device.
