My first thought Reishi. Found on old rotten stump in area of Black Oak trees so I believe stump to be Oak. Also growing from soil around stump. Some were larger up to a foot across the cap.

Thanks
Would I be better of to get a clone from the big one ( almost a foot across ) or go for a small one like in the first Pict for a culture.
Also would I take tissue sample from where the cap meets the stem like I do with others ???

In 2009 I kept finding Reishi, so I thought I would try brewing some Tea. That was the worse thing I have tasted to this day. I wanted to take it for a month to see if I feel anything different. I read it is supposed to help with sleep insomnia, but I couldn't deal with the taste.
If you know of some other way to ingest please explain. I have a whole tub full of dry Reishi ground up. I was thinking of capping some in gel tabs?

If you do, the white edge is the best plate to get it. So I'm told those are undifferentiated cells and more easily form mycelium.

Hmmm..I don't necessarily mind the taste of the tea but I do always add stuff to mellow out the flavor as well as adding to the potency of my potion.
Try any/all of the following: Goji berries (any berry really), Cat's Claw bark, lemon, honey (especially manuka honey) etc..
However, I should add that I'm always finding Ganoderma Tsugae up here in B.C. (which apparently is just as, if not more, medicinally valuable.) Perhaps Ganoderma Lucidum tastes a whole lot worse
