Went out with Thinker today and he spotted the first morel of our season. We ended up finding 20ish in 45 minutes.

Found in tulip poplar and ash forest near a lake but not in a floodplain - ill post a habitat shot tomorrow.

Nice finds!
I've never eaten morels, and am very curious about them. I heard that they are slightly poisonous if not cooked? is this true? I also hear that they taste great! Cool finds!

Not really averaging anything steady, it's been wild for temperature and rainfall
this past week before first finds it warmed up to ~70-80F/40-50F but just our luck... precip is due soon and its going to hit low 30s the days following, sweet..

yeah got to love this weather...80 degree's few days, last two nights been 35-40, and tomorrow calling for friggin 8 inches of snow 
i hate virginia, know its not NC but close haha

The Thinker and I went out today. We found a lot more than i was expecting. Thinker did the microscopy.

Not until the soil temperature gets back up to 50 degrees for a couple days.
