About my GB and whiskey bottle

So i just finished getting my supplies together for agar work, the only thing that seems questionable to me is my whiskey bottle. I got lucky the other day in running into a random whiskey bottle. Im not 21, all my friends are into weed/psychedelics and hate alcohol, and I tend to be a loner by choice as it means spending more time here with you guys; but that means its hard to get my hands on alcohol.
The only problem with my current whiskey bottle is that the lid wont screw down tightly, the inside screw rings of the cap must be damaged because while it will stay on top its not airtight. I have a synthetic filter disk attached with RTV on the top covering a 1/4" hole I drilled in the cap. If I go ahead and PC the bottle with the agar inside and simply leave the tin foil on until I use the bottle inside the GB will it be fine? Should I wrap the cap/bottle interface with micropore tape?
My other question is about prepping a GB for agar work, how do you prepare yours? Just scrub the sides using a paper towel and soapy water and then let the air settle for a few minutes or what? Iv had my GBs for a long time but they haven't really been necessary up to this point due to the self healing injection ports allowing me to do everything open air, agar just seems so prone to contams if the littlest mistake is made.

I'm sure you'll be fine w/ just the foil over the agar bottle.
OK...Prepping my SAB for that kinda work...
Spray entire interior down w/ iso & underside of lid. Wipe down the interior of SAB first. Then put a few paper towels on the bottom. Next I spray a Bleach water (ratio 1:10) mixture all over the towels + bottom, which ensures if a contam falls it'll be stuck to to the bottom. Wipe down my lid & the rim of the SAB where the lid will meet, then place it on top of the SAB, but not sealed. Leave it Open slightly so you can load your stuff into. Wipe down everything thing that's going in there w/ an iso soaked towel. Wipe down the lip of the SAB again & spray a little bit of Oust in there to ensure everything is going to die in the air. Seal, let settle for 2-3 minutes...wipe down gloved hands w/ iso then enter & get to work. **Also, I normally put a paper towel soaked w/ iso draped over things I've loaded into the SAB before I hit it w/ the Oust.
...GL buddy. Glad to see you're still around...

I have a 750ML Peach snaups(sp?) bottle that has that same issue. Its a metal lid and over the first few uses the threads malformed and the lid does not screw down all the way. I simply prepare my agar, place my filtered lid on and tape around the joint of the lid and bottle with micro pore tape. I have done this several times and it works out ok for me.
When I used to do agar in my GB I would wipe down the inside surface with a 10% bleach and water solution before loading in all the things I need. Everything going into my GB was wiped down with 70% ISO alc. I would then give a couple more spray inside the box with my bleach solution and let everything settle for 10-15 minutes before starting my work.
NOTE: ISO or aerosol air disinfectants + flame = BAD NEWS
Agar in a GB can be intimidating but it is very do-able. Be as clean and quick as possible in your pours and after the agar has set wrap all your plates with either parafilm of saran wrap cut off a roll in 2-3" strips.
You will know within 3-4 days if everything went well as your plates will still be contaminate free. If anything starts growing toss the petri.
My very first pour in my GB worked out fine and I only lost one plate to contamination.
Good luck!

Thanks man, glad to see you to
What if i were to get a small rack to elevate my materials an inch or two over the floor of the SAB(like the rack RR used in his vids when working by his flowhood) and left all the alc soaked paper towels down there at the bottom? Im going to have to try that out.
Everything for me has been about reading(as you already know) and getting lots of equipment together. Iv been way to busy with school, family, and friends. Everythings coming together lately I just havn't had time to photograph or talk about it, Ill post some pics of monos soon enough. Working on growing a whole bunch of edibles and cloning my cubes right now

Yea, def. do that too. Wipe it down & put it over your paper towels when they're dry. That way when you mist the towels to wet them you'll ensure that you're getting the rack too.
I just picked up a piece of Stainless Steel (need to put the breaks in it) for the same thing....It'll be 2" Tall x 8" Wide x 4" Deep. I can get more easily...which I better do ...(sorry, but no, I'm not offering to ship you SS...)

Good to know Im not alone
I plan to use todlow's style SAB, I will have a butane micro torch inside to flame the scalpel hot without having to leave the SAB. Well then bleach and soapy water it is, of course the materials will be wiped with alcohol, maybe I should leave an alcohol soaked paper towel inside(and a fire extinguisher close by JIC). The main thing that concerned was letting the air settle, I never established any protocol to deal with properly prepping SAB due to the lack of need.
Parafilm and plastic bags are accounted for, Ill post results within a week or two(depends when the monotubs start pinning since they are being prepped this saturday)

well how about some organs, or at least chloroform; I need all the materials possible to turn this place into a seedy crackdown worthy of Fear and Loathing
