Neighbour plays the drums

I don't think I've ever seen him but I can hear him alright
How would I go about organising a jam?
I'm not going to call in and say "Oh I heard(literally) that you play the drums! Want to jam?"
How could I go about this?

Either just "Oh I heard(literally) that you play the drums! Want to jam?", or discretely leave flyers advertising a jam at your place all over his front door.

Get talking to him would be the first step, haha. Might as well tell him that you know he plays because you can hear him, if it doesn't bother you, he'd probably appreciate knowing he's got one less person to worry about bothering.
I dunno, I love jamming, just making music for shits. It can be absolute magic.

While he is jamming just start jamming on your guitar and try to flow with him.
If he's cool it will work.

I might try this. I wouldn't call in just because I've never been introduced to him, don't even know what he looks like. Maybe if I'd talked to him before I could say I never knew you played etc.

I really don't understand why you don't just go knock on his door...

He's probably got a crush on him or something, and is too shy.

what's the logic behind that
he's already too nervous to talk to him
that'd just annoy me
go knock on his door
"hey i heard you playing drums, i'm ________, i play guitar, wanna play sometime?"
holy shit i thought i was socially awkward

You're gunning for digs I see
Well I can get nervous playing in front of people as it is,I'd usually be drinking before playing in front of people until recently enough.
It just seems weird calling into a house with people I don't know asking for the drummer

Really? I often play guitar, bass, and sometimes even sing at this free-jam in my hometown that this lady sets up on Wednesdays and Fridays--if I drink, though, I can't play anything for shit.

What does "calling into a house" mean? Just say that you've heard people drumming and are wondering if anybody in the house is willing to jam with you, it shouldn't be too hard.

Seriously walk over there WHILE he's playing drums! Bang out the door (loudly) and when he answers the door, thinking that your there to complain, you surprise him by saying something like "hey man you're pretty good, do you want to jam? I play guitar " Include the smiley face.
That's what I would do and have done!

Well the trick is to be practicing while you're drinking, picking the guitar up for the first time when after a few doesn't work as well and can be disastrous.

Knocking on the door I mean. That would be weird I think, other people in the house then looking to see who this guy is calling on the door for a jam, some hotshot(when I'm not) and then me...
I'm probably making something out of nothing but it happens sometimes

Yeah, don't act like you're trying to show off or anything, just be upfront and honest.
