hello shroomery, this is my first post! i'm a long time reader, fairly new psychedelics explorer
Anyway the post has to do with set and setting. Are there any other particularly sensitive psychedelic users who find that there are very few sets and settings in which they are able to feel comfortable and have a good trip? I have tripped on shrooms 3 times and never had a good trip. Meanwhile, I've tripped on LSD 5 times and only have 2 good trips - the other ones were all either uncomfortable or terrifying. It hasn't stopped me from being curious about psychedelics though, especially since the couple of good trips were completely life-changing and so based on the sets and settings of the bad trips i think i've determined the following rules for myself...
I have to ALWAYS be with at least one person who i know accepts me completely and whose weaknesses and strengths I know completely, because i've always been doubtful of my ability to form such a relationship
I can NEVER be with someone who is too judgmental, narrow-minded or quick to criticize, because for the bulk of my life i've always felt like i had to censor my thoughts on things in order to be accepted
I must NEVER be with just one person or people who are cliquey because I have difficulty with interperting any silences as comfortable, plus i need several different personalities so that i can always feel the ability to let out any persona i may have that wants to come out
i must ALWAYS be financially secure prior to the trip
I have to NEVER have stuff to do later that day or in the following days
I have to NEVER be in a place where there are lot's of people working and doing business such as school or workplaces
I must NEVER be in complete wilderness without lot's of people
I can NEVER do it when it's cold, windy, grey or rainy
is there anyone else who has an enormous amount of prerequisites for tripping that they must enforce upon themselves to avoid bad trips? Sometimes i worry that tripping just isn't for me because I certainly don't have a very good bad-to-good ratio thus far, but that would be quite a bummer, because psychedelics are certainly my favorite drugs.

I used to be the same way. Basically the stars would have to align for me to partake. Now if it feels right I just go with it. My last one, a few days ago I didn't even want to trip. I decided to take my girlfriends advice and we had an amazing time. Cold, gray sky and all. It was very nice lying on the hammock with a comforter, looking at the cloudy sky change colors and do it's thing. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. To think, I wasn't even going to dose.

Yeah, if you close yourself off with all these ridiculous rules, you shut out a lot of the awesome power of psychedelics.
Also, if you absolutely need someone there like that, you have attachment issues. Sorry.

I like being off the next day with nowhere I have to drive for at least 12 hours after I ingest.
I like to feel good physically and not be tired.
I like to have a positive day in general, I tend to let things go more on trip days. I'm working on being like that everyday hehe.

I feel you, man. I'm exactly the same, I can't trip unless everything is perfect in my mind, especially with the people around me. Call me paranoid but I'm constantly worried that I'll be judged for my thoughts, actions, mannerisms, and even how I breath when I'm around others. It's fucked up but you gotta start somewhere. What really helps for me is to define my comfort zone then push myself to go beyond those limits. It's like how the saying goes: you gotta learn to walk before you can run.
I hope tripping works out for you, man. It's too good of a tool for self-betterment to pass up.

All serious psychonauts experience both the good and the bad. It comes with the territory. Rather than calling them "BAD" trips, you should look at them as "difficult" trips. The point being that all trips "easy" or "difficult" have something to teach you.
Some of my most fearful, and difficult psychedelic experiences have been the ones that have taught me the most. Experiencing your own death during a trip is certainly a scary thing, but it teaches you a lot of spiritual wisdom.

Yeah I live in an area where I get to experience all the seasons. As they begin to change, I begin to feel an urge to trip. Something about the seasons changing brings back memories and emotions(which makes sence because odor is one of the strongest things that activates our memory.), the smell of spring or the colors of fall.
It is very important to have a planned setting. 1. Having the strength and desire to trip. 2. Plan a day where you don't have shit going on and nothing for the next day. 3. I like to hit the gym the day before and some stretches the day of. 4. I also try to eat light, enjoying fruits and vegetables the day of. 5. I feel that planning to trip with friends or alone is just as important as where. I think these would be the few things that I do for prerequisites. I also refrain from drinking alcohol or smoking a lot of cigarettes because I feel that it is the best way for me to set trip.
