For the millionth time we didn't invade Libya. It was executive-decision short-term military action.

Clinton pulled this kind of shit in Eastern Europe all the time, and nobody bitched at him because it was obviously beneficial to the growth of civil liberty and democracy in that region without placing any undue burden on the States. So why is everybody wigging out at Obama over Libya?

In fact, that's even the strategy followed by George H. W. Bush in pursuing the first Persian Gulf war, which was one of the tidiest military conflicts in history.

It was just W. who came up with the brilliant idea of using our military for the purposes of occupation and heavy-handed nation-building for no apparent reason other than the moral discombobulation caused by 9/11.

I swear to God the way Republicans talk about this shit, they're disappointed in Obama because he's not committing state resources to absolute domination of the country like Bush did with Iraq and Afghanistan, and Democrats are just trying to get attention by capturing residual outrage from Bush's moronic prosecution of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

What the fuck, guys? Are you paying ANY ATTENTION AT ALL?

i was watching the news earlier, idk which, and I had to grimace as they talked about civilian casualties. they said something that made it sound like there was a chance that there would be no civilian casualties if they were just careful.

when i commented, my friend said "well yeah, i guess you can't guarantee no civilian deaths...". i said nope, and i thought to myself that I can guarantee SOME, if not many civilian deaths. bombs are kind of indiscriminate, not to mention that we've been killing civilians for the past 10 years and then finding out about them from wikileaks.

Really depends on what you're targeting with the bombs. If you bomb a military outpost, for example, the risk of civilian deaths is statistically insignificant.

The killing of civilians and the torture of innocents and the spying on American citizens comes from Bush-era policy, enacted in a time when people were too shellshocked by 9/11 to mount any serious political resistance. Intervention in Libya comes from a legitimate concern for the treatment of the citizens of Libya by its government, and our belligerency towards the Gaddafi regime is reinforced by its direct sponsoring of terrorist attacks on Europe and America.

My point is that you should save your political outrage for the shit that came before, not the shit that's happening right now. The shit that came before is still happening and still haunting us, and the shit that's happening right now has nothing to do with it.

I dont think we were undergoing a massive recession and deficit. Plus a unemployment crisis at the time clinton was commander n chief. With gas prices hiked a extra dollar then they were this time last year and inflation out the ass on everything thats a necessity to live in this god dam forsaken land. Also ide like to ask you think W. came up with the so-called brilliant plan of invading iraq and afghan? lol the guy is a complete mental midget and a puppet. Only thing he did is what his staff told him to do. And its clear they lead him to ruin or this system let him be lead to ruin.  So really wtf is wrong with you for admiring these political bull shit artists?

I admire none of these bullshit artists. I believe all politicians are liars and hypocrites.

That said, these are the liars and hypocrites who are paid by our tax money and use more of that same tax money in an attempt to serve our interests on the world stage.

Clinton did a great job doing that in eastern Europe. It cost us nearly nothing in the grand scheme of things, it saved us the trouble of dealing with hostile regimes in the future, and it spared the people who lived there from absolute authoritarianism and brutality.

Obama is doing exactly the same thing in Libya. He is using a minimalistic approach to the commitment of our military to achieve short-term objectives in the interest of weakening the resident dictator, giving the people of that country more of a chance to form a democratic government.

But our perspective of our government has been deeply tainted by the complete incompetence and retardation of George W. Bush. He used the principles of authoritarian dictatorship in his approach to Afghanistan and Iraq, because he is the worst president we've ever had. The power he wielded represents a far more massive failure of our government than anything Obama is doing now.

I'm not saying any politician (including Obama) is a humanitarian, or even a good person. In fact, I know they are liars and hypocrites, because that is what they are by nature. I am, however, saying that some of them are good at their jobs and some of them fucked up real bad.

Granted it's a bit of a stretch, since the west of the country isn't really a distinct religious, racial or national group, but I got the systematical destruction part right(yeah I wiki'd it :naughty:)...or would you call bombarding Bneghazi from the Mediterranean warning shots?

Considering you can't understand sarcasm, I suddenly wonder what I can possibly hope to accomplish by explaining current events and historical precedents to you.

I need to find better ways to explain the situation to willfully ignorant simps, obviously.

Psst, my friend in the CIA told me we're actually bombing Libya because Obama comes from a long line of hemp farmers. Gaddafi's really anti-drug. Remember how he said the rebels were putting hallucinogens in their nescafe? He puts people to death for smoking weed, and Obama is trying to free the stoners of Libya to smoke the finest of danks he grows in his Illinois warehouses.

That hurt my brain to type, but shit, I'm beginning to understand why conspiracy theorists have so much currency. Some people are just too fucking stupid to face reality head-on.

No warning shots here. The plan is to weaken Gaddafi's military without an invasion. Since you can't identify any distinct religious, racial, or national group being targeted, how can you possibly justify your use of the word "genocide?"

Did it hail in your neck of the woods on Saturday, Poid? It came down like snow over here, and there was lightning and thunder. We never get that shit around here, I was overjoyed.

Yeah rain is pretty kick-ass, I love Bay Area weather. :heartpump:

One point I add:  It Isn't the US's business to run in with Guns-A-Blazin' into every country that has this crap going on.  That is what is wrong with American foreign policy.  We would be better off getting control of the mexican border.  Of course, legalized drugs would make a lot of the problems in Mexico vanish.

Well, this situation is happening because Libya's is immediately adjacent to Europe, and Europe contains most of our closest allies in the world. This is really Europe's war, and we're just lending a hand.

I'm a pacifist, so I feel like a dickwad advocating military action in this thread, but really, I don't want to let the trauma of Iraq and Afghanistan stop me from acknowledging the legitimacy of military action that might actually be able to make people's lives better in the long-term.

Well it's just the next best thing, how else would you call it? Mass murder just doesn't have the same ring to it...but yeah, I get your point...Doesn't it still count if it's a distinct political group?

Also I used to love rainy days, now they kinda piss me off, sun is great.

I wonder how pissed the cartels would be if drugs were legalized; I'd imagine they'd be pretty fucking pissed, and might even start killing off US citizens.

Mass murder is yet another incorrect term for what's going on, but I admire your passion.

Sunny days and rainy days both have advantages IMO.

They're already sick twisted fucks--ever seen any of those decapitation videos? I saw one months ago, and I still can't get it out of my head; I think that shit quite literally traumatized me.:eatingout:

But yeah, if they're cutting people's heads off with dull knives today, while drugs are illegal, imagine what they're gonna do if their main source of wealth vanishes?

Ever seen an apeshit Mexican? Trust me, you don't want to. :nono:

Mass murder would actually pretty much fit the bill, wiki says beyond 4 murdered people it's worthy of being called mass murder. Also says that government shooting at protesters is mass murder...i think that would include bombing your own cities...

Just to prove that your admiration is not lost on an unworthy cause...:hehehe:

And to further prove that, Leo Kurper says that genocide should include political groups......I won't use it anymore though, it's to far of a stretch...

so because you think the mob would get real angry you think we should keep 'drugs' illegal? coward.

even if they did get real pissed and started to kill random citizens i'm sure you could just take what resources went into the DEA and other anti drug agencies and put them to work on protecting citizens and helping mexico get back on its feet.

also i doubt the cartels power will last much longer without their huge income of drugmoney. unless they turned to legitimate drug sales, but even then, 'these thugs might get angry and start killing random citizens' is a pathetic argument for keeping drugs illegal.

Gaddafi's military isn't a political group, it's a military. So no, we are not committing mass murder.

Gaddafi was the one committing mass murder.

Well timing is critical and obama should know were in no spot to be involved in fixing a fucked up regime like libya, when we cant even fix are own damn problems. Its a sham the hole fucking thing really.

I predict that the violence will only escalate if drugs become legal; I'm not saying that drugs should remain illegal because of this possibility, I'm only pointing out the violence that may ensue as a result of drugs being legalized.

It never really occurred to me before, but legalizing drugs would probably drive all those cartel members to robbery and shit like that. It would definitely cause chaos, at least for a brief period of time.

It makes me wonder what could be done to provide alternatives prior to legalization :strokebeard:

armies wont invade the US because the population is armed, the only reason
the cartels have gotten away with that they've done is because US  is full

If being a Mexican for 22 years has taught me anything, it's that Mexicans are typically prideful SOBs who don't know the first thing about letting go of grudges. Especially Mexicans from Mexico (i.e. not ones that were born here in the US, like me).

It never really occurred to me before, but legalizing drugs would probably drive all those cartel members to robbery and shit like that. It would definitely cause chaos, at least for a brief period of time.

It makes me wonder what could be done to provide alternatives prior to legalization :strokebeard:

texas and arizona are 'shoot at will' states, who will they rob other then each other

armies wont invade the US because the population is armed...

Like this has ever stopped any determined armies.

If drugs are legalized, they'll be quite literally fucked--these people are prideful assholes, they don't give a shit about dying for their cause, especially if they feel like they've been royally fucked over. "La Raza", remember?

...the only reason
the cartels have gotten away with that they've done is because US  is full
of retarded pussy politicians, let the violence escalate and make it over
the border, all those people the liberals have been calling racist will
toss liberals out front as human shields while they remain safely behind
the piles of bodies killing foreign nationals at will

They can easily invade our country, while keeping a low profile, and eventually start to attempt to dismantle it from within, guerilla-style.

Josue Oviedo looked into his sister’s fading eyes as she fought to speak her last words.
“She was trying to tell me something,” he said, a day after the funeral for Daisy Oviedo Mejía, 22, who died in a storm of bullets while watching her brother play soccer a few weeks ago. “But she couldn’t. I gave her mouth-to-mouth but there was too much blood.”

, I'm not sure what's so funny about this...

That now it's pushed deeper into the jungle and it's "like david fighting goliath" yet they are dumping more money into it.  FAIL

Since the real reason they are going into Libya is that Europe depends on Libyan oil, I think we shouldn't have gone in.  Especially on a command from the UN.  Who the FUCK is the UN?  The UN has not done jack fuck for the US.  I say, if countries want our military, they can pay us for it.  Let's get the troops home and protect our own borders.
