colonization time dependant on jar size?

my pet spider is using the PF Tek with BRF and vermiculite. he's using the same amount of material that the half pints call for, but with quart size jars. will the jars take longer to colonize because of the extra dead space? it's been about 2 weeks and they are only about 40-50% colonized while i'm reading posts where people claim 100@ colonization in 20 days.

correct me if im wrong but i think they mean that they were using 1/2 pint jars and are now using one quart jar...two 1/2 pints worth of substrate in one quart jar instead of two half pint jars.

That can be normal speed.... you can get 100% in 10 days, but most of the time it will be 20-30 days if your temp is around 80 constant. (the strain is a major factor with this...just wait as it will be worth it! or try another strain (like creeper or cambodians!)

You can, but larger jar = longer colonization time = larger window of opportunity for contamination. Some folks hit a happy medium by using pint jars.

It should take the same amount of time.as the. smaller jar because it is the same amount of substrate..But its possible with the open area on the top you may get alot of condensation on the top of the substrate ..possible slowing it down..you may want to flip it,, when it gets close to 80%.
