In UT, the Mormons aren't allowed to drink coffee ( ) so they drink Mountain Dew for their caffeine fix.
But for some reason, they think that any dark, effervescent beverage is a coke.
I grew up here, too, but there are sodas (usually some sort of juice and soda water or something imitating juice and soda water), colas (Pepsi, Coke, RC), root beer, cream soda, and ginger ale...it's like saying all mildly alcoholic beverages are beer.

Addicted to pop? Maybe caffeine but you can't really be addicted to pop. I would suggest drinking green tea instead, with REAL sugar if you need a "fix". Corn syrup and aspartame are no bueno.
Also when you drink so much pop it gives the illusion of you being hydrated (caffeine hides the symptoms of dehydration). I would recommend having some discipline and when you feel like a soda, go for a glass of water instead.

First of all...any activity that offers a quick and satisfying reward can become an addiction, be it heroin, gambling, shopping, or food.
Second, sugar is sugar. Doesn't matter where it came from, large quantities of it are bad for your health.

Sure anything can be an addiction, but "addiction to pop" should be easy enough to overcome with a little discipline. You'd think a diabetes diagnosis might shed light on things a little.
The difference between sugar and aspartame is that sugar doesn't give you cancer. And for a diabetic, if he is going to have any sugar at all, it is better to have cane sugar than high fructose corn syrup, which was probably the cause of his diabetes in the first place.

Nelson4207 said: Ok.....so i found out not long ago that i have adult on-set of diabetes(Type 2) and am wanting to cut out all sugars to help increase my chance of reversing the disease, but i seem to have an addiction to pop that i didn't realize existed until recently.. I can easily drink a 2 liter or a 12 pack of pop in a day,Sometimes alot more. I feel like an idiot ,having caused my body harm without realizing it,but am now trying to change. Quiting pop seems to be even harder than when i quit cigarettes. I try to drink water and it only seems to dry my throat out, I thought at first it was cause i was dehydrated and my body couldn't get enough, but now it seems like maybe i am so used to the syrup in the pop, water won't help. IDK really ,But i badly need to kick the habit. I am mainly searching for a substitute for pop that doesn't have a horrible diet taste,or a way to curb my sugar/pop cravings. So if anyone has any advice of any kind i would appreciate it.
Here's the best solution I have found:
1) Cut the pop cold turkey 2) Start drinking 5-hour energy (6-hour is good too) about 3-4 times daily 3) After a few weeks of this start weening yourself off to coffee 4) Once you've gotten yourself down to about 2 pots a day then you're ready 5) Now you can drink as much pop as you want without having the craving to drink anymore
I tried this myself and I can stand by how effective the method is!
Good Luck

Damn, that's a LOT of soda every day. ughh makes me shudder thinking about it! Water is the greatest thing on planet earth. The most satisfying thirst quencher ever, and there's nothing in it...it's water. No sugar or carbs or any of that shit.
Just try and gradually switch over to water. Whenever you feel thirsty just drink a glass of water. I bet you'll cut down on your soda intake...unless you're addicted to the caffeine which could be a possibility... In which case, drink coffee
seriously, get off the soda, man! GET OFF THE SODA, MAN!!

I don't need a caffine fix....i drink mostly caffine free pop.....like root beer and strawberry. It's just a habit to grab a pop/SODA! instead of water, and the syrup seems to tide me over better than water does,as the syrup puts a layer of film in my throat that makes me feel hydrated....idk.

LOL dude you come on an internet forum stating that you just got diagnosed with type two diabetes. You then state you drink a lot of pop. You then ask US for advice on how to stop. Sorry but I find the whole post rather . It's really simple dude, you don't need advice on how to quit drinking pop, the solution is quite obvious, you just need to enact it.

The body is a weird machine. The reason you feel thirsty when you only drink water is the fact that you are actually hydrated. It's when you don't feel thirsty that you are actually dehydrated.
So if you take down a gallon of water a day, you'll have the thirst sensation, but your body is actually happy.
Don't know why. Google it.
