As im using the HP method for Oyster mushroom, soaking chopped straw for 3 hrs as per in the booklet, i did get contamination for some. Others, im observing.
Does anyone who has used the similar method know the reason why?

How much did the hydrogen peroxide cost you for that batch?

This isn't a good way to pasteurize straw. The best way is just to use hot water in the normal fashion. If you really want to use chemicals to do it then use diluted bleach. Peroxide can be handy in some situations but is not quite the magic bullet some sources will suggest.

From where i am, 6% HP is very cheap.
So in other words, following "Growing mushrooms the easy way" method is not really practical, when using 6%HP on straw?
Bleach, ive not even heard about it being used for straw and is there a method which i can follow?

If you're using bleach, use about 250 ml to each 10 liters of water, assuming your sodium hypochlorite when purchased is diluted to 6%. You can also pasteurize with hydrated lime. Both of those are better than using peroxide, but not as good as heat pasteurization. It's just a matter of finding what works in your local area. RR

Peroxide is great for bubbling wax out of your ears.
Otherwise, I pretty much always use 1 cap full of bleach to 3 gallons of spray water to mist - no idea how much that is, but it isn't stronger smelling than pool water. I do the same for dunk water. I am happy with the results - no noticeable difference in times or yields, a few more flushes before the green arrives.

I can tell you from experience that's right around 100ppm and would be acceptable as dish rinse water or surface sanitizer in a restaurant.

Thanks for the input.

I was under the impression that the chemical makeup of straw and wood (cellulose?)had a neutralizing effect on the peroxide. I researched peroxide as an alternative and read that somewhere, I wish I could source this any ideas?
