Grateful Dead - American Beauty and Workingman's Dead

Pink Floyd - Meddle

"We are all intoxicated. We were born into an insane asylum, a world crazy-making. We believe what we see and hear. The real myth is the myth of sanity, of rationality: it's a disease that is eating away at the earth. All the poisons flow from our denial. We deny madness, we forget our crimes, we dismember the corpse, we imprison our children. We need poison to poison the poison, to remember the sacred nature of intoxication, the green body of the young god." ~ Dale Pendell

Beggar's Banquet by the Stones was also a phenomenal album. Really bluesy.
Fragile by Yes is also fantastic, good band suggestions Smoky.

Long John Baldry

The Rolling Stones considered this guy a God of songwriting. They opened for him in their early days.

I'm gonna bump this thread, cause the Pub needs more oldies. I was gonna make my own thread, but this came up in a search, so I'll just revive it instead. I've been listening to a lot of oldies lately, from Motown & Stax to Swing to Sinatra....

Some Sam Cooke;

Good song, never heard it (or them) before. Really love solid jazz bassists like the one in that song.

Have you ever heard of Kid Baltan or Tom Dessevelt Akira? Crazy sounds from the 50's. Really electronic sounding stuff. I think they were a bunch of big jazz players that experimented with a more electronic sound. I think Raymond Scott might have been part of it, or was involved with the same group or something. I do know that Raymond Scott played around with electronic kind of music a lot in his later years, a lot of odd sounding stuff far away from the typical jazz sound he is famous for.

Been a while since I've read into it, but here is the music either way.

Not musically fantastic by any means, but interesting nonetheless for the time period.

yep, Dick Raaijmakers and Tom Dessevelt are awesome. i like the kind of almost close to program music. it's just... a solid thing... almost like music box. i like that concept.

PS: that Raymond Scott, i haven't heard yet though, cool. real cool. not just for babies, but probably perfect babies.

PPS: yeah, he made it real pro to make music for corporate videos and logos and other things. i think it was called Manhattan Research Inc? really cool dude.
