Nice!  I always wanted to restore a free sailboat off craigslist.

The 'free stuff' section is where craigslist shines.

When you are on water, speed is measured in knots, not miles per hour.

Congrats on a project well done!  Much respect!!!

Hi there, I am restoring a Force 5 and I found you online. i see that you made your own rudder. To make a long story short. My brother and I live on Cape Cod we do boat repair and boat building. My brother worked for cape cod Ship Building and I had worked for Cape Dory. I make rudders, tillers and centerboards for a lot of different boats. My problem with the restoration is that I can't find anyone that will give me the dimensions or a tracing of the shape of the rudder and centerboard. I would rather make my own because that is what I do. Let me know if we could do something I would like to make them over the winter and be finished with everything ( fiberglass repair  painting with Awlgrip and i need to find a boom) for spring next year
Thanks Bernie

hi bernieh, welcome to the forums.

i started with 1" board from home depot. they come in 1"x12".. (really only 3/4"..)

the dagger board will need to be tapered from front to back (tear dropped) in order to fit in the dagger trunk..

good luck.:pipesmoke:

found her on craig's list for free..

i cleaned her up using steel wool and degreaser.

she's now ready to have inspection ports put in. these ports are needed to inspect and repair any leaks she might have. i plan on adding nylon socks inside the side ports to serve as storage compartments..

once the ports are cut i like to take pictures of the inside to help with the inspection. she looks brand new..

next on the to do list is making a new rudder and dagger board using the old ones a templates, i found 1x12x8 solid redwood boards forsale for $50 at homedepot, i'll also need spar varnish from west marine to seal them up..

left to do:
buy new sail
polish and wax
fix cracks
install hardware
i might make my own trailer.

i think you won the internetz. this thread is def a win
