Uploaded with ImageShack.us Couple of questions: spores are coming in on friday. Is it okay to boil the jars today or tomorrow and let them sit for 36 hours?
I also got thee full size wide mouth mason jars. Is this a problem? In the PFT video he used half size mason jars. How do I have to modify the
Per 5 cakes: 1 Cup brown rice flour 1 cup water 2 cups vermiculite
If I am using full size jars?

I would prepare your substrate mix when you have all your materials and the required time to complete the procedures.
Yes it is a problem with those jars. For BRF cakes you want half pint wide mouth jars. These are the standard for BRF cakes for a reason.
The bigger your jars the more time it takes to colonize, which can lead to an increased chance of contamination. IMO it would be in your best interest to find some half pint wide mouth jars.
Some people get away with using 500ml and 1L jars, but they usually inoculate with liquid culture instead of spores, and have a few successful grows under there belt.
My advice is to follow the BRF Tek videos to a T your first time around.

I usually just use a small nail and a tack hammer. I save the drill for the SGFC. Make sure you make the holes (4 of them) right on the edge of where the lid begins to raise towards the rim. If you are unsure where I am talking about, hit up the PF tek.

those quart jars have shoulders tho.. you could never get the cake out.. BUT they'd be perfect for some grain!! i dont understand why people even do pf tek.. to me its just second rate.. i never even bothered trying.. grain is so simple and you have enough to get a cheap PC.. you should seriously check into it mang.. check second hand stores too.. might be surprised and find a cheap PC.. its way WORTH IT!! poop is free.. you already got verm and jars.. and tubs.. all you need is a PC and some cheap wbs in order to be right on track for a nice monotub!!

dball, the picture you posted is a 1/2 pint alright, but it is regular mouth rather than wide mouth. Works just as well for PF! No shoulder, and the cake pops right out.
