Polygamy
    #14169863 - 03/23/11 12:53 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

So for a class I am reading about mormon polygamy and they claim that polygamy is the celestial rule of God and that when mankind practices polygamy, it will eradicate all social evils, elevate all mankind, and is for the benefit of the entire world.

So if I tell my girlfriend I'm gonna start banging other chicks for the benefit of all mankind do you think she'll be okay with that?

I'm not saying that there is anything inherently "wrong" about polygamy, just that this justification is a bit crazy.

it's also in Islām

-----------------------------------
al-Qur’ān القرآن

Surah (4:127) Al-Nisa سورة النساء,

“marry such women as seem good to you, or two and three and four; but if you fear that you will not do justice between them, then marry only one or what your right hands possess: this is more proper that you may not deviate from the right course” (4:3)

Polygyny

“Allāh الله سبحانه وتعالى chooses who we love. الله Puts it in our Soul. Love is in the Soul. All our Souls are a part of a type of “Constellation”. One star cannot count as a Constellation. Each of us have multiple Soul-Mates to make up this “Constellation”. Some people Die alone. It can take up to a lifetime to find even just one of your Soul-Mates within your “Constellation”, let alone three or four. the world is vast, we are far apart."

im lonely i wouldnt mind having "Sister-wives"
but i just dont think it would work
it makes sense
becus a man can give everything to a woman
EXCEPT for the feminine, nurturing care that only a female can offer
but Jealousy in the end is just such a tenacious factor

From the books I read in anthropology about polygamist families it seemed like jealousy was the best part for the man - all his wives just kept trying to dish out more pleasure than the other :naughty:

Of course this was in Iraq, so they were subservient as fuck.

Why is there anything crazy about what they are saying if you consider that humans are one of the only species that is actually monogamous?

Several species are monogamous, it's not too rare a trait in the animal kingdom.

And WTF, you don't think this is crazy: it will eradicate all social evils, elevate all mankind, and is for the benefit of the entire world.

:what:

I like how you conveniently left out of your quote how I said "one of the only species", would it have been better if I said vast majority?

As far as you saying it's not too rare of a trait, I believe you are taking what you think I didn't say to the next level and making it seem like monogamy in the animal kingdom is common, which infact it is not.

My uncle has one of these at his house right now and I bet if we hooked it up with a partner and then a different one the next day it would NOT turn it down.  That bird is probably very lonely by now.

They get depressed when they lose their partners, and it's rare for them to ever acquire a new one--in fact, if I remember correctly, they've never been known to acquire more than one partner in a lifetime

Here's some interesting information:

Monogamous pairing in animals - Wikipedia
Quote:

The amount of social monogamy in animals varies across taxa, with over 90 percent of birds engaging in social monogamy but only 7 percent of mammals engaging in social monogamy.

I think OP was talking about sexual monogamy, well at least that is what I was referring to.  I doubt a bird would have as much of a problem if its "social companion was out tweeting another bird as would OP's girlfriend if he was with someone else.

I don't think that article made a distinction between social monogamy and sexual monogamy (i.e. I think those terms mean the same thing in this article, because I don't see anything stating otherwise).

Hmmm, quite the irony, I was apologetic about not noticing something you had quoted about me and now we run into this.... do you not see where you quoted about social monogamy??  It only mentions the word social like 3 times in one sentence.
