Dumb Shotgun Question

N00b here, just thinking since I'll need to be drilling tons of holes on all six sides, including the bottom, won't the perlite fall out through the holes? I was guessing that since the perlite will be wet that would prevent it from falling out?

don't worry about the perlite, just do it all in your tub
I've lost plenty of verm and perlite down my drains

1/4" holes
as you say, the perlite is wet ... it clumps together and doesn't pour out the holes.
have a little faith .. do it ... and you will see.
good luck

If you go to the local garden store, not walmart, and get the big cheap bag of big cheap perlite, it's less of an issue. If you go to walmart and buy the small expensive bag of small expensive perlite you may make a bit of mess.
But drill all the holes, every last one of them.

Just dont drill the holes in the bottom I never did and never had any problems, most likely if u using a walmart tubs etc its prolly gonna be sitting on floor or something solid I assume and I wont help air exchange much~

That is a big no no.. You want holes in the bottom of the tub and you want the tub elivated so that air can circulate under the tub cause the moisture to evaporate from the surface of the perlite..

First off the extra holes in the bottom are needed for optimal RH, please do some research before you hand out misguided info. Mushrooms will still grow, but the tub wont hold the best conditions.
Follow the teks and stop telling people to do things that have been proven to cause problems

That's what I've read everywhere as well. My bin is one with wheels on the bottom giving the space underneath .5 to 1 inch. Think this will be enough to allow air flow? Also it's not on the floor as I have read that raises the risk of contamination.

You are definitely gonna want those holes on the bottom. Right after adding some holes to the bottom some pins started showing.

Well most people will tell you to put your tub on some jars.. Like make table lids out of some jars, put one in each corner.. That way you get a good few inches of clearance under the tub for free flowing air..

Thanks I'll do that. Sort of unfortunate though as it's nice being able to roll the FC in and out, but I'll trade inconvenience for better fruits any day.

I know what ur saying ive Done the multiple holes drilled in the FC including the bottom before and they work great!! But not drilling the holes in the bottom will have minimal impact on RH if any. And the Results will be the same!! Just cause everone says jump off a bridge doesnt mean you have too",, theres more ways to do it than one maybe try experiement with something else and youll learn something else!

Damion.... Your little thing on the side is incredibly distracting... I found myself staring at it for quite some time. Not because she's super good looking, or the outfit... But dear god I wanted to figure out what she was saying.... I came up with "Buttercup Bitch"
