How do you know if cakes are too dry?

Hi there,
I'm halfway into my first grow - about 6 days into fruiting, using cake method (still no pins) - and I noticed that the cake is really firm, like VERY firm, not totally dry, but definitely much more so than when I took it out of the jar 6 days ago. Humidity reads 95% in the chamber, at 70 degrees.
How will I know if it's gotten too dry? And should I consider dunking if that is the case?
thanks for your help!

I am new to this, but I have read on the forum that if it feels light then it is probably to dry. It should feel pretty heavy for its size. Did you not dunk? if you did not it would be wise to dunk and roll with dry verm, than place back in fc

If you haven't done that already, Do it.
Otherwise just keep misting and fanning and eventually pins will pop up, if they completely dry out then your chamber may be the issue.
What kind of FC are you using?

I'm using a Mycodome - the humidity has stayed a constant 95% so it seems to be working in that sense. I just picked the cake up to examine part of it and noticed how hard it'd gotten.
Will do on the dunk/roll - should I expect the pins to take longer to form because of this?
Thanks for getting back to me so quick.

Yeah, Dunk it 24 Hours then give it at the least another six days to start developing pins, could take less time, could take more.
Whenever you birth(Remove a cake from a jar) It's usually a good idea to Dunk/Roll it so get a better first pinset and flush.
Repeatedly dunking and rolling it has been known to produce better flushes.

dehydrated or bruised cakes turn bluish (they physically show you when theyre hurting! awesome! : D). you should ALWAYS dunk and roll/double end case your cakes after birthing. if you already birthed them, double end case them. put some verm in a cup with water, stir it up, with a clean fork drop some of it on a square of foil, put your cake on it, place some more on top of the cake. good luck.

Cake is dunked, Verm purchased, and lesson learned.
Thanks all.
