I have the videos(not-pirated of course, much love and support for fellow cultivators)i think the biggest issue i had was does the first layer of foil with inoc and GE holes have to be air tight? if so, how? and also im going to have to use a pot(not pressure cooker) to sterilize, am i able to stack the cups? i've heard trusted cultivators here say u can, and others say you can't haha. much frustration in my first grow;) thanks for the quick reply though:)

and i dont do cakes so i dont know about stacking, but you can..

The foil is to keep moisture out of your jars when in PC or hot water bath. Once cooked remove foil for GE. Your holes should be covered with polyfill or micropore tape, or a couple of pieces of Tyvek. I myself use masking tape put on after I knock up. I will poke a hole (small, Like needle size) in the tape after the colonization is at approx. 20% & another hole is poked at 80%. If I see the colonization slowing down I will poke yet another hole. I use 4 knock up holes. Nothing should be air tight during the whole process, that is why you put a dry layer of verm, to keep contam's out. P.S. You can stack them in the PC or hot water bath. Not a good idea when trying to get them to colonize because you won't have a place for GE.

after you nocc up your jars you dont need the tape, as long as you have a dry verm barrier..
what i would do is put the foil on, sealed as tight as you can, sterilize, then flame your needle and inject into 4 sides directly thru the foil....then just leave the needle holes in the foil, since you have a dry verm layer, that'll allow for gas exchange and still be a fine filter..

sounds good. I'm using masking tape for my inoc and GE holes. and thank god stacking is ok when sterilizing, i have 40 cups to go through so i dont want to be sterilizing all day.

there's no problem with that, i've gone 2 weeks after sterilizing my grains before i've nocc'd them up..
as long as you properly sterilize they will last a good while before going bad.

Your right biologys about the tape, but I have had good luck so far doing it that way, so I figure, if it works, don't fix it. Coarse I forgot to mention that do not the experience that you do, but as of yet I have had no contam's doing it this way. Working on G 2 BRF tonight. Doc T said it can't be done and that set me in motion. We'll see what happens.

Remember you have to keep the jars out of the water. I would leave the jars in the pot, covered untill you knock up.

Actually Roadkill said you could use masking tape and it does work. Like I said above 1 hole 20% another at 80%.

The dry verm barrier should protect cakes from contamination but micropore tape breathes while preventing contaminants. I when I do cakes I don't use the dry layer (nor jars for that matter) and it wouldn't be successful without micropore tape.
