eBook Torrents?

I read a pretty decent amount and I would definitely do it more often if I didn't have to drop like ten bucks every time I needed a new book. I'm thinking of buying a kindle or similar e-reader and then just downloading all my books for free with torrents. I'm just curious if any of you guys have experience with this.
Are a lot of ebook torrents available? Can torrented ebooks be transfered onto a kindle?

Check out http://library.nu/ Easy to sign up, no torrent just direct links. I think they are all in PDF format. You just have to look for the password on the download link and use that to open the rar file.
Don't own a ebook reader so I don't know if pdf's work.
For torrents
Maybe demonoid,
These are both private trackers that cater to books. You can try and get into http://www.myanonamouse.net/inviteapp.php
Or try and get an Invite for bibliotik.org
You can try reddit's tracker request invite thread and request an ebook tracker invite.

PDF's work fine on my Kindle. Although, I think there are some models that don't support them.

Good to know, I might just get one of those readers someday.
The http://library.nu/ site should work well for finding books, it has a lot of titles.

Do you download torrents and other free files onto your kindle?

Well, I download them to my PC first and then copy them onto my kindle. So far the only file types that I've tried are .txt and PDF. They both work fine but my kindle has pretty good PDF compatibility, meaning you can use a TOC and search features and it displays the pictures in a PDF just fine as well.

Cool thanks.
I guess that seals it; I'm buying a kindle!

That's a good question, OP. I have a Kindle and have always just downloaded the books from Amazon. There are times when I get really annoyed when the e-book costs a lot more than the paperback version. Stephen King books for example are extortionately priced.. I was going to download all of the dark tower series books to read again even though I own them all, but stopped in my tracks when I saw that they were like £8 each.
I'm going to have to look into this.
