I could easily be wrong about this but I don't think AI will ever develop the type of directive-forming capacities that humans possess. It's a unique product rooted in hundreds of millions of years of evolution. Computers may get smarter than us but IMO they will always need us to tell them what to do, provided we avoid the gray-goo scenario (which is heavy on the conscience of AI scientists everywhere).
And so naturally, the goal is to imbue the human will with the capacity for digital computation, memory, and networking. I seriously want in on this.

So what happens after the technology evolves for hundreds of millions of years then? They may be able to iterate much faster through the generations too.
I see no reason 'technology' cant develop the same types of hopes, dreams, fears and emotions that 'biology' has developed.

Sure they can, but it would take uncountable eons for them to spontaneously develop these capacities (as I suspect is the only way such capacities may develop). The feeling, dreaming machines would be our children and by then we would be, merged with our own computerized hive-mind, more than capable of acting as responsible parents.

Why would it take uncountable eons? You said yourself, it only took hundreds of millions of years for us to develop them.

I don't think it will take near that long - I think holographic computing will be tackled within the next 50-100 years and from that point computers may be so powerful that they alone have the cognitive power to further themselves (unless upgrades were made to the human brain as well..)

Originally I was going to say "hundreds of millions of years" or something specific like that, but I said "uncountable eons" because it's impossible to make meaningful predictions about something like this. It could take millions of years or thousands or hundreds, but I'm of the belief that you cannot "invent" free will or emotion.

a very interesting topic indeed
we will one day become an angelic, cosmos-faring race of super-intelligent, limitless demigods!

That's another thing, I can't wait until technology has grown so subtle that we are able to make the Earth into a green growing paradise like the Garden of Eden which is nevertheless stocked with technology beyond anything we can imagine. We wouldn't even need to wear clothes.

very interesting debate between Virtual Reality and Transhumanism:
i say we should incorporate both.. why the hell not!

I don't think you understand just how fast computers learn. I see no reason why a computer with 1 million times the processing speed of the brain could not evolve into whatever it wants.

Word... I think it is possible in the future there will be a point where computers processing power and elaborate software reaches a point where the computer itself devises the means to double its own power at an exponentially growing rate... a singularity of sorts.
