so after looking at AA pressure cookers and then looking at Presto pressure cookers, i decided to pick up a Presto 23 quart PC.
i was looking on ebay and totally forgot about amazon and, after much debate, i settled with making my purchase with amazon.
Shipping Method: Priority International Courier Shipping Preference: Group my items into as few shipments as possible Subtotal of Items: $82.54 Shipping & Handling: $67.87 ------ Import Fees Deposit $15.91 ------ Total for this Order: $166.32

Sold by: Amazon Export Sales, Inc.
super excited to get this thing!
how many of you own one of these? how do you like it?

sometimes i think americans are so lucky with the pricing they get on merchandise.
considering the actual cooker is only $82.54 at amazon, i would say that you pretty much paid the average regular price for it. what made my purchase so expensive is the damn shipping (from usa to canada) and the duties. but hey, its pretty much my only option to get a decent pressure cooker around here.

Damn... wasn't there a way you could have purchased this in person to save almost $70 in Shipping and Handling?
I've seen Presto Pressure Cookers everywhere from K-mart, Walmart, grocery stores....
For an extra $70 you could have gotten a big ass PC and done a shitload of jars at a time....
Either way, that's a good model and will work great for you. Congrats and enjoy.

i could've drove to buffalo from toronto to buy it. but that would cost me about $50 in fuel and a few hours of time. it is still probably cheaper to spend the ~$80 on shipping and duties.
the only presto pc's ive seen in my area (toronto area) are the small ones, up to 6 quart. they said they cannot order me the 23quart either.

That's brutal. I'm really shocked there isn't somewhere like a Walmart or Meijer or local grocery store closer to you than $50 worth of gas that sells pressure cookers...
Or even a Canadian company that sells them online, at least shipping would have been less and you wouldn't have to pay import fees.
Well, I guess if somehow this is your only option then that's a good deal. Either way, the bottom line is you NEED a PC for this wonderful hobby.

Canadian tire usually has 22Qt Mirro PC's for around $130. I purchased my first one full price and got my second one off kijiji for $30.
So far they have treated me good.

yeah i saw that but they looked cheap to me so i went with the presto... and the presto seems to resemble an AA the most.
mirro looks like cheap fresco stuff to me.

I can assure you it is not, they cannot be compared to an AA but they are strong, heavy duty, manufactured well and do me well.
I use my PC at least 2-3 times a week min, and the one I purchased is over a year old now without a single problem .
Keep good care of it, lube your seals, wash it out after use, dry it before storage etc and whatever PC you have will last you years and years.

Craigslist is the shit too. Found a 25qt AA in great shape for $125 and no tax no ship obviously. Those AA's go fast, Buddy got 4 calls for it in the 1/2 hour it took me to get to his house.. crazy

I ordered the exact same cooker to Europe from sears.com It came up to 100-110 euros with the 20 eur VAT that my country added.

I just recently bought 2 23 quart presto pressure cookers. They work great for me! I found mine at Rural King for like 89.99 i think.. I was going to save a bit of $$ and order online.. But rural king is like 5 mins away and after shipping/possibility of damages I just spent a couple dollars more and bought them.
IMO well worth the money. The sound of 2 pressure cookers drove me nuts at first..Its becoming more soothing with every grow.

It comes with three weights so you can select your PSI. The biggest weight is for 15 PSI.
Here is the link: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/8/KitchenBath/1/Cookware/PressureCookers/PRD~0428305P/Pressure%252BCooker%25252C%252B22qt%252B%25252821L%252529.jsp?locale=en
Also note it has a 5 year in store warranty with Canadian Tire, and a 10 year limited warranty with the manufacturer. I did not know that until I looked it up today, good thing I kept the receipt and have two of the same PC's

It comes with two trivets(metal "racks") along with the three weights.
It is very safe unit overall with something like 6 safety controls so you pretty much cannot blow this sucker up. I would highly suggest it to any Canadian looking for a cheaper pressure cooker.

I currently have a glass top stove, so I do not PC on top of it.
I went out and got a single portable range to use 100% with my pcs and it works good. I have had it for over a year no problems.
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/8/KitchenBath/2/Appliances/SpecialtyAppliances/PRD~0431200P/Salton%252BSingle%252BBurner%252BPortable%252BRange.jsp?locale=en
I am at the moment trying to track down another one so I can run both PC's at the same time instead of one after another.
I also made a heat shield out of metal siding to protect my counter top from the heat that the portable range produces.
I start the run on high, and when the weight starts rocking I back off to medium heat until the weight only rocks every so often.

Some people say you can PC on a glass/ceramic top, others say there is a chance it may crack your top if the bottom of the PC is bigger then the burner. I personally would rather not find out the hard way, stoves are expensive, portable ranges are not.
Its an electric stove top, and yes in my opinion a shield should be used. The burner is 1200W which works out to about 4,000 BTU output. I HIGHLY recommend a heat shield if using it on your counter top.

Here is my setup:
I place a piece of metal siding cut a bit bigger then the stove ontop of a folded dish towel. Place the stove on top of that and I have not had an issues. My counter tops are laminate so I assume without the shield it might warp, bubble or crack.

I just brought that same model from ebay - with shipping, it came out to be $102. I just used it for the first time yesterday and I'm stoked on it! I can fit up to 10 quart jars in it.

ace hardware sells 23 quart presto PCs for $100. buying from down the street = supporting local business and making a return a hell of a lot easier...$20 difference, to each their own. congrats!
i believe my mirro 23 quart was around $80 on sale from ace. go big or go home as they say.

if you are going to put something under the hot plate (to protect whatever is under it) you will want to use something that is not flammable. a towel would catch on fire much quicker than a wooden countertop.

A very good, cheaper, alternative to AAs in my opinion. I have the 16 qt model and its done very well by me. I got it on amazon awhile back for like $80 and i can do 7 quart jars at a time.
