I used the tub-in-tub tek and found that my jars were overheating causing condensation in the jars(dealing with cold climate also) and so to remedy the situation I simply unplugged the pro-heat (aqauarium heater) and the water in the bottom of the first tub stayed relatively around room temp.  I also placed a small blanket in the bottom of the incubating tub.
So don't overheat as you will only welcome plush conditions for contams and overcondensation. and how about a space heater, even a small one????

If you have central a/c you can put a piece of cardboard in the vent obstructing the flow also put a towel over the bottom of your door to keep any cold air out and if its sunny open the blinds.

i've been using a mason jar with reheated water in a microwave, put in a cooler, to incubate jars

alright everyone. i very much appreciate it. i may angle the "drilled" holes to be able to plug a fan in on one side to fan once every few hours, removing excess heat. as for the tub in tub method, i will attempt it when they are incubating.

this is a bit time sensitive (i need them by 2.5 months)

thanks all, any other suggestions on how to improve my timing with almost all equipment necessary will be deeply appreciated. thanks <3

I have one final question before I begin. People keep saying it's an "outdated" method or old or something else, does this mean it doesn't work or there are better ways? I'm not trying to grow mushrooms to sell them or give them to a group of 10, I simply wish to grow the medicine for spiritual healing.

I think tub in tub method is most useful, especially if I need a warmer temperature. 68F is fine and dandy but if I do need it to be warmer for a speedier growth (sometimes when I leave a window open for air, it gets as low as 60 degrees...). I may cut the tubs to about 4 inches height to provide a heat pad. just to keep the humidity in check.

I am very curious, though, the PF Tek method gets the mushrooms wet and the pins wet, I was under the assumption that if water touches them they will be ruined... I'm not sure about this. I guess I need to do more reading but I am not sure where. Google is a not as good as it used to be (I'm probably not as bright as I used to be..).

Thank you all for such beneficial comments and advices.

Blessings.

ok so sorry for the post again but tub in tub is really silly i realized. i got a water heater for up to 30 gallons and with 1/4 gallon it doesn't even make the bottle warm. i run really hot but still really silly. i think you were all right, pf tek method, i'll modify it by adding a heater with a thermometer to it, maybe a fan to circulate heat (i'll just cross bridges when i get to them).

thank you all again. <33

most people don't incubate since ambient room temperatures are fine for colonizing. lower temperatures gives competitor molds less chance of getting a foothold since they require higher temperatures. I dumped the tub in tub technique years ago and it's one of the best decisions i made in this hobby.

ok thank you this is good momentum in a better direction. i just wasn't feeling it too deeply with everything i "knew" and i really don't like to handle gentle lifeforms without a clear mind.

so would a terrarium heater be fine? it's a pad that goes underneath, i'll probably put a towel on it to make it heat it up to about 75-77 degrees. I feel the 70s much more than the 60s (temperature wise)

also, sincerely, thank you all for posting. i have had such a great experience on the shroomery so far. it's like i never thought of growing until recently and here is all these beautiful people who have been doing it for months and years!

i really dont recommend incubating, but if you feel you must, just place in a styrofoam cooler and place a jar of warm water in with your jars, once or twice a day heat the jar of water in the microwave and place back in..

OK so this is great. I just realized I don't need to use a glove box, I have very good control over contam's. I brought in two humidifiers, one cool mist and one warm mist to raise the humidity of my room to 55% (it will get to 60% at it's peak which will be without much airflow to the room but it's not good for fae).

aaaaaand this humidifier thing got the temperature to a nice and cozy (and stable) 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit. This is awesome because I live on the hillside (basically on a mountain range) and it gets dry up here as well as cold at night. Right now, it's 41 degrees outside and still warm and humid inside.

Only concern is that I need to make sure I keep it sanitary in here. I will burn sagebush and palo santo everyday if I can (when I get the jars going) as they get rid of virus and bacteria + good vibes and spiritual cleanliness in the atmosphere seems nice. And I'll spray disinfectant when I need it (or use the leftover $20 to get an air filter for the room, keep it nice and clean).

I also ordered filter caps because I am really trying to fight off bacteria, I'll use micropore tape to keep the filter caps (lids?) closed off after inoculation (I think I will just stick a syringe through the sides and simply tape over it).

If any (or all) of these methods seem really hazardous, I would deeply appreciate some advise.

Blessings to all, Love and thank you for your guidance.

bad idea. it became too hot too quick too cool too quick (when I air vented). i'm going to try a heat lamp + aluminum foil to cover it's light, see what happens.

Or just stop messing with it and let it colonize at room temp  First timer failures almost always come from them trying to mess with shit they don't understand yet.

good call. things keep going wrong. many bad ideas so far. i tried putting an aluminum foil over the heat lamp to prevent light and it ended up overheating the lamp. i tried to put two humidifiers but ended up giving other molds a strong advantage to preform. i will do as it says in the pf tek method. i don't know if i can get a glove box because i have no space to store something that big without it being seen but i'll try.

lol circling simplicity
