Thanks in advance to everyone who's been helping me out lately. I have been scouting both northern and southern California (I go to university in the north, but this week I came home to orange county). ALL SPECIMENS COLLECTED IN THE SAME AREA- AN OAK THICKET WITH SURROUNDING UNFERTILIZED MEADOWS. I am only interested in knowing if any of these specimens are active. Don't bother yourself positively identifying ones you are certain are not active. <3 <3
---------------------------- SPECIES "C" Size: 8 1/2 inches from base to cap. Cap diameter: 3 1/2 inches. Cap: slightly convex. Creamy orange/tan. Ridges around circumference of cap. Lines of ridges faintly run up to the center of the top of the cap. Gills: White, attached. Stalk: White, no bruising. Circumference = ~6cm. Annalus: None Odor: None Habitat: wild, green meadow grass. Shade of oaks nearby.

 --------------------------------
SPECIES "D" Size: 3 inches from base to cap top. Cap = 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Cap: very convex, dark brown/purple. Lumpy across the top like a potato. Gills: White, barely attached or not at all, and the gills run very high up into the cap and outward as they descend to the lip of the cap. Stalk: thick, stubby, same color as cap but slightly lighter. 2 inches long. Annalus: none Odor: Faintly earthy Habitat: wood chips, two specimens next to each other, nearby older ones. Found in shade.

-------------------------------------
SPECIES "E" Size: 3 inches tall, cap diameter: 3 inches Cap: oval shape, umbonate, like a mexican sombrero. Carmel brown with slight gold hue. Dark brown edges. Gills: Light creamy tan/brown. The gills curl up over the lip of the cap. Annalus: None Stalk: 2 inches long, thick, hearty. Stalk color is creamy light brown. No bruising. Odor: Modorate foul odor, slightly fecal in origin (as the words dribbled off of its chin...it said..iiiiiim looost) Habitat: wood chips in a thicket near oak trees.

------------------------------------------------
SPECIES "F" Size: 5 inches tall Cap: Convex, creamy beige in color. 2 inches in diameter. Notable white skin on top that peels off. Perhaps another fungus? Gills: White cream. Gills go way up to the top of the inside of the cap. Not attached. Annalus: Slight white skirt attached but not flaring off. Stalk: thick, white, slight cream. No bruising. Odor: Mildly earthy. Habitat: Woodchips near fencepost under oaks.

CONTINUED:
SPECIES "G" Size: 3 inches tall, 3 inches cap diameter Cap: Peeling skin on top revealing streaks. The skin is light caramel brown. Cap shape is flat. Gills curl up around the outside of the cap noticeably. Gills: Light brown/creamy. Slight rose tint, according to my friend. Do not attach to stalk but run close to it. Annalus: none Odor: Mild earthy, portobello smell. Habitat: Woodchips near oaks. Underneath a California Peppertree.

thanks everyone!

Not a single one is active, you're going about it all wrong if you want to find active mushrooms. Try reading this.

i have read this. I'm just working with what I've got, which is not much in this urban deathscape. I will do some really serious stuff when I get back to campus next week.
as always, thank you for your help.

the chances of finding actives your way is very slim find out what goes in your area > find out when it grows> where it grows> learn every aspect of it and then hunt for that mushroom in all the right places.
if anyone knows the id of any of the photos above they should let me know because i have a few estimations and would love to see if they are correct :p

very nice observations everyone. those amanitas are neat to find.
Okay, well I searched the entire forest near my house for Panaeolus cinctulus after doing some research, and found zip.
So, maybe you can help me with a reverse lookup. I'm in Orange County, CA (southern cal) for the next four days. It is raining all week. It is spring, obviously. Temperatures are 70 and moderate. There are deciduous forests all around.
What would you look for and where would you look?
