jesus man you pulled those shrooms out like a savage, members have told you this a few pages back snap them at the stem or use scissors next time, don't pull the whole mushrooms out of the ground with the mycelial roots still attached. It destroys patches! I think I know that spot. Although I'm hoping its not the same place since you seem to have plucked myc from all the mushrooms you found.
pic 1 is a sub
pic 2 is def not a sub
pic 3 I dont think is a sub
Really hate to have to tell you again, but seriously stop plucking the f***ing mycelium.

made a better attempt to what? how hard is it to snap them at the stem? takes no extra time at all and it keeps the area healthy. show some respect.
who knows what the other orangey ones are, there probably no good for eating active or not though so

hey guys, i hve recently been told about a place in south australia where i can find some blue meanies (p.cyanescens). ive been picking gold tops(subs) for years and know my shit.i went to this place today, which is a small pine forest in a cow paddock. the sun was going down and only had about 15 mins to have a quick hunt. i found a few subs but nothing that really looked like a cyanecens, however i did find something quite similar to a sub but has very pale gills and turns extremely blue. im not really sure what it is. heres some pics of them compared to a normal sub on my hand. in the second picture, the two on the right are subs and the two on the left and something different. alll specimens were quite old due to a lack of rain i think. ill head back there soon after a rain for a proper hunt.

very pale indeed, the pale gills is more than likely from it not dropping spores yet but thats just my thought and the pale cap could be caused by lack of sunlight or too much exposure (eg started drying) perhaps but still they both deffinetly subaeruginosa

sub gills start creamy when young and go dark in maturity.
Its not really limited to that though, I find small ones with dark gills and really big ones with creamy gills. usually creamy gilled subs are often the healthiest, and sometimes more potent in my experience. Mostly always have crazy bluing as well.

They're both Psilocybe subaeruginosa. The ones with the light coloured gills are sterile and produce no spores, hence why the gills are light.
Psilocybe/Panaeolus cyanescens does not grow in South Australia, P. cyanescens is a tropical species and grows in Northern NSW and QLD only. You will only find P. subaeruginosa in Southern Australia.

i know most people say that there are no cyanescens in s.a, but i have been quaranteed by a reliable source that they do grow in this paddock, i find it hard to believe myself and i guess i need to see it to beleive it but i do trust the people who told me about it. well ill try again soon and hope for the best and try and bring some evidence next time! i have never seen subs with such pale gills before that turn so blue!,well actually i have on only small young ones but these were old! cheers people

Its pretty common slang too hear people call subs goldtops and blue meanies, unless your buddy knows the difference between specific species (he might for all I know) I would say its just him using the slang word for subaeruginosa.
Good luck and make sure to photo them if you find any, but I highly doubt you will.

FunkyFungy said: imagine a hillside, where top-bottom left to right u cant walk 5 meters w/o going past 5 subs or more. The spot was a 1 of a kind find insanity is all i can describe it like
I guess I just don't see how 3 people need 2 pounds of mushrooms from a single day hunting. .
Kinda obvious isn't it?
It's sad that it turns into something so magical and rewarding to something purely revolving around profit....without saying too much.
Leading to the legality, i would definitely not want to get caught taking things from government land aka SA water reserves, State parks and forests, you are not allowed to take anything yes even sticks, they will most definitely fine you if you got caught destroying habitat.
As far as the fungi goes, I think it comes down to common sense really, if you're caught with kilos of shrooms all of the one active species you are definitely not only picking them for personal consumption but you are also likely moving them on...
I was caught out a few weeks ago by a park ranger luckily i had a few different species on me and nothing of large quantities, the guy was a legend thankfully and I was honest and said i was interested in Mycology and eventually even showed him where i found some amanitas as he had always wanted a photo. However it could have been soooo much different, I could have had a tired grumpy ranger approach me who was having an off day, he could have done me for all kinds of things, police would have gotten involved, i would've been done for the joint i had, next thing you know I'm in court defending myself. F***ed up hey...
So don't be silly with questioning the legality of it, just take it east and happy hunting!

If you are on sa. water grounds without authorization, you are trespassing.

As I've written before I found panaeolous. cyanescens as far South as Jamieson near Buller, Vic but it was after an unusually humid couple of weeks.
@legality discussion, well we are all aware of and understand the risks involved in this, our passion/pastime/hobby/spiritual endeavour. Lets just hope most of us are as chilled/switched on as smokeandtoke.
