^^
sounds like a cortinarius sp.
I noticed a property owner on a drive out some way (dont need to say if you know it) where there was a valley/ slope with some big old wide gum trees. The ground had been churned up just in this gum tree valley. As though someone didnt want anything growing / beggars in their yard picking.

700grams dried in one hunt is ridiculous, thats almost 2 pounds of dried mushrooms. You should definitely not be taking that much from one place if you did.

Remember this is between 3 pickers and the place hasnt been picked in well over a month by neone they were everywhere in all stages of growth pin-dead if we didnt pick them they would have gone to waste. not to mention the thousands we didnt pick due to lack of sunlight.

It was between 3 people. Pretty crazy spot, didn't really expect to find that much there, i'd say across the entire area about 90% of all mushroom growth were subs. Most were quite old but due to how dry it was they were well preserved.
Oh and we left plenty still there :/

I've had days where I got over 1000+ subs and it was way less then even 100g dried.
I'm not going to preach but taking that much in one day is a little crazy IMO. I don't think I would have taken a 1/2 maybe even 1/4 of that over the whole season and its more then anyone would ever need.
As I said a few pages back I always leave 90% of whats there, I wouldn't think you left 90% at your spot if you took nearly 2 pounds dried. Thats just unnecessary.

Probably not 90% no, but we took well under 50% of what was around

I go to several places like that, I still don't rape the place. I guess I just don't see how 3 people need 2 pounds of mushrooms from a single day hunting. My spots have flourished because I leave so many around, I find clusters of 30-50 every 5 meters or so and take maybe 5 at most from each cluster. Do what you want though guys, I'm not here to lecture anyone.

Can anyone please tell me the actual legality's of picking any type of mushroom (and subs) in a SA forest? I would like to know I have heard a lot of different things from a lot of people.
This is all because yesterday we went for a hunt and as we were leaving we ran into some people who were riding motorbikes in a forestry SA forest causing damage to the area... it was a couple of guys one was a chiller and we had a chat. He said that it was perfectly fine to pick any type of fresh mushroom from the forest and that the locals 'know what we are up to' but his other mate said that nothing can be taken from the area. We told them that motorbikes were illegal here...
Had a reasonable hall but that dry spell we had was drying them out. abit.

In my thoughts, Picking edible mushrooms would be legal, Psychadelic 1's probably not legal to pick. Dont quote me though thats just personal interperatation of S.A's wonderfully colourfull laws

Taking any natural plantlife (including edible non active fungus) from the SA forests can be quite a hefty fine I believe, which could be quite worse if it turned out you where taking psychoactive fungi.
Mushrooms actually exist in a sort of grey area, not that it matters to the police. Technically the mushroom isn't illegal, but because it contains psilocybin/psilocin which is a scheduled substance, mushrooms are therefore illegal due to the fact that they contain psilocybin. Tricky aren't they? basically their saying we didn't outlaw nature, just the chemicals inside.
And on that note funkyfungi, if you got busted with as much weight as you got from your previous hunt I could imagine you would be in a fair bit of trouble. They don't look too kindly at large hauls of psilocybin mushrooms like that. They'd probably charge you with possession of a commercial quantity of hallucinogenic mushrooms for that many, which could have some kind of prison sentence involved, maybe even a fairly harsh one if the judge was a prick and hated mushrooms.
Be safe

Quite probably yes, hiowever my point with the edible mushrooms is they are not actually considerd plantlife in Australia they are considerd a fungus, and of which i doubt would be any law to actually get you with. Also with the edibles youd have to take into account on wether the govt considered the quantity a commercial ammount for resale or for personal eating. If considerd commercial there would be tax laws to worry about which is a complete extra issue.

your not even allowed to take a stick off the ground outside of the forest in some of SA forestry's, but if your confident enough go right ahead.

Cheers for that mate, i know exactly where they are growing to so next time i go up ill see if they've made some progress Went out for a quick scope today, only got a handful again, lots of old black ones from the last time we went up to that spot.
Cheers @FunkyFungus, sounds like you know some sweet as fuck spots, wanna take good care of those patches very fruitful.
Bloody laws, makes sense not to be able to take anything out of the forest, otherwise you'd probably see a buttload of people in there stocking up on fire wood and all that lol.
Saw a dude decked out in army gear yesterday, jumped straight over a barbed wire fence into SA water territory, me and my mate were mighty impressed hahaha
