Keep trying Mr Floyd Hang on Im Mr Floyd
Speaking of Floyd I went to see the coverband Beyond the Darkside back in May. Ive seen them twice now and I must say the latest show was fantastic much better than previous,so Im suggesting if we are still posting here in a couple of yrs time we should get a team going to attend the show. Cost is approx $100 so start saving. They tour here in Adelaide every couple of years.

No. You found a bolete. Some boletes bruise blue but this is unrelated to the blueing of psilocybin mushrooms.

Hey dude, I wasn't insulting you or anything man. We all start somewhere and I always believed in the saying that the only dumb question is the one not asked...
I remember finding some bright purple fungi years ago and asked a mate for an ID and he said it was all good thankfully i didn't eat it but that's kinda what i was getting at, it's really good to ask questions and get a sturdy ID knowledge down
Peace

where to start lol theres heaps of LBMs(little brown mushroom) around probably the most common i find would be galerina marginata which is deadly poisionous and look rather like p. Subaeruginosa

Are the gill colour and bruising the main way to tell a galerina from a sub? The cap looks a couple shades different to.

galerinas dont bruise blue and they have a brittle stem with orange gills and a yellow brown to rusty spore print. They grow on decaying wood or found growing on moss

cortinarius galerina are the 2 main ones I see you really need to watch out for.
experience is the best way IMO, sorry that doesn't help you noobs, but youll get there.once you know a sub, you know a sub from anything else. I've seen look a likes that literally had the same cap, the same stem, the same nipple, the same colour, the same everything (usually minus blue bruising) and still I could tell it from a sub just because I know subs.
I can't describe it but you just get used to the texture, look, exact colour variants, ect of all different kinds of subs.
And while I'm mentioning blue bruising, there are some look a likes that are naturally a shade of blue, its not bruising, but there goldish with a blue tinge. Next time I see one Ill get a photo for the thread as I see hundred of the buggers and they even trick me sometimes.
That along with the... Chunkyness of the stem subs should have a fairly meaty stem and wont break easy, most look alikes are slimy and brittle stemmed, One thing that helps me know its a sub is how is snaps from the stem, if one tears apart soon as you touch it 9/10 its not a sub.
The location, size, and general growth of the clusters SA subs grow by themselves alot of the time, or in tight little clusters of about 3-10 subs of varying sizes. Look alikes usually grow in much larger and more spread out patches. In other words you'll see hundreds of thousands of look a likes, and maybe a few hundred subs if your lucky.
I rarely go from cap colour or gill colour, but when your starting out you probably should. sub caps can be white when dry, gold when plump and fresh, and black/gold/blue even like a few we've seen in this thread.
sub gills can be creamy in colour, to almost black brown.
The best advice I can give you is to do your research, be respectful to the patch and environment and it pays off.

well said austrip however i still find slimy stbs in the wet and yes i still get fooled by look a likes until further inspection and im pretty sure alot if not everyone stil does, own experience is most definetly pprobably best after awhile you will learn to tell a sub from just another LBM
