Psilocybe cubensis. They're the most common magic mushroom in the world and are easily cultivated. They grow in the warmer weather on cow shit in paddocks, usually in NSW / VIC / QLD. There would be some wild in SA but I would think 95% of cubes that get spread around SA are homegrown. Though i'd say 90% of mushrooms that go around SA are subs anyway.
Someone asked about growing mushrooms earlier.. http://www.mushroomvideos.com/ There are some clips from a DVD that gets sold, i highly recommend the DVD if you're gonna start cultivating... that and the cultivation forums here are absolutely amazing.

I'd rate 10g cubes or 5g subs as a heroic dose.
Sorry man, but I can't quite figure out what you meant by this?

cubes = Psilocybe cubensis subs = Psilocybe subaeruginosa
So to translate.....
"5 dried grams of Psilocybe cubensis is what Terrance says you need to see elves and pixies and crazy shit.
That would only be 3 dried grams of Psilocybe subaeruginosa.
I'd rate 10 dried grams of Psilocybe cubensis or 5 dried grams of Psilocybe subaeruginosa as a heroic dose."

@jordman - you can get electronic scales off ebay for about $30, beats paying up to $200 for anything you can find around here :S I've had mine for years they come in handy as. Just bang the grounded subs on em and your good to go
If you wanted to cap the subs, how many caps would you need for 1 gram?

Cheers buddy yeah we were shocked at the amount we found. I've been browsing on shroomery on and off for the past few years, just decided this year to really get into it, and its paying off a lot easier then i was expecting. Got a question though, is there any toxic types that bruise blue that look like subs? pretty certain after picking out all the ones that didnt bruise we are left with subs, just cant be to careful with these situations, dont want to go ingesting something that'll equal bad times makes it harder because the subs can look so different depending on where you find them, its all good fun though Hopefully go out again this weekend or early next week, if it keeps going this way going to have a nice little supply
Whats the worst thing that could happen if you ingested one or two bad shrooms out of 5? Back in the day when my gf was into shrooms a couple times she spent the whole trip fetal on the ground clenching her stomach, feeling like she was going to die. but didnt. Not trying to suggest its ok to eat them just curious if anyone else has had similar experiences.

Hey fellas heres a haul from the long weekend. My mate took me out to swap a spot or two:)
I ended up with a decent haul, Found a couple of new spots aswell.

I found this big sub ripped out of the ground with a few other little ones
At one spot we found a couple of white subs.

Looking forward to getting out and about this Sunday. Hoping we get another colossus batch!
How many times a week do people usually manage to get out for a hunt? I can only make time for once a week

jonstoned: These are the ones we aren't sure of, printing them atm, and advice on them would be quite appreciated
Most of the ones you said you were unsure look like subs to me in the photos. However, these two caught my eye:
Look a bit suspect to me man - somehow those stems just don't quite look right. What colour did the spore print turn out for these?
Also, a lot of those specimens look pretty old: unless they were dried promptly, I wouldn't be surprised if you find a certain proportion of them crawling with maggots by now (or in the near future). Normally when this happens, it's just the cap is affected, stem is salvageable: I suggest you throw the rotting cap material into some nice habitat somewhere.
When inspecting wild mushrooms I've picked, if I don't see the signature blue bruising on the cap or stem, I tend to focus on the texture/consistancy of the stem, the colour of the gills (and sometimes spores as well), and the scent: I have to satisify myself that these three items are consistent with the subaerougnosa species before deciding to keep them.

Cheers ToMP, they were chucked in the dryer about 20 mins after we got home, if they turn shit they'll go out in the garden, they're at my mates house atm cos hes got the dehydrator so ill find out tomorrow about the print Those ones with the more brown stem i ended up chucking after i took the pic thanks for the validation buddy going to have to remember to smell them, its more of a normal mushroom smell? noticed that you wouldn't get bluing until you check them at home, chucked a good 50 that were fail, but for my second serious hunt im pretty pleased with the result If the cap is screwed, save the stem thanks for that ill remember that, chucked a couple stems today because the cap was absolutely screwed haha.

I usually only make it out once a week this year. Change of pace from last couple of years because I'm working full-time.
I was hoping to take some leave days next month that I'd have devoted to hunting, but we were told today no one gets leave approved until after end of July: busy season for us.
Bummer eh?
