Yeah makes sense, almost everyone associates mush with forests. Pretty much want a little personal patch that you can look after and what not

get that dark?? Your probably looking at the underside of the gils @jonstoned they go that color from dropping spores and subs can be dark ive got photos further back in the thread of black subs aswel as either @ToMP or @fungus.amongus. The color variation here is incredible ranging from light brown/ orangey - dark brown/ black, it all depends on the substrate they were found in among other things

Wouldn't mind getting out again tomorrow either, learning more about them every day, cheers for the advice LOTG I'll have to remember that about the color of the gills, work off stem and cap color before moving onto the gills  @jordman, you'll get there buddy, will make it that much better when you do hit gold

if the gills are green or orange i wouldnt go near them. You're probably more familier with harvesting younger specimens or subs that havent dropped their spores so if the gills are dark purple/brown dont worry but if your still a bit wary spore print them

There was a couple with really brown spore prints, but they didn't bruise so i binned them, the rest (that were big enough to print) were more of a purple. Cheers for the pointers, put them in my notes
Did you end up getting out today LOTG?

Big out to all the forum posters, long time lurker here first time poster and intermediate psychonaut. Looks like a good season thus far, haven't been to the forests yet ( having your first kid leaves one bereft of time for hunting).

Anyway great debates/ discussion/ photos this year plus plenty of new members out there and many more peeps learning about fungus great and small! Its good to see. I believe more forum members equals more knowledge which leads to less destruction and raping of our forests and patches. Respect the mushroom and its habitat and it will respect you!

Who else has a growing interest in edible and medicinal mushrooms? I tried Lactarius Deliciosa recently: butter and rosemary fried is just delicious. It was strange though, the specimens were bruised a greeny blue. I am sure this does not mean active but does anyone have any info on this? Also I have seen field mushrooms in local parks of Adelaide, you know the white brown or tan gill kind, that have yellow bruising. Is this an indication of anything? One particular specimen smelled of burnt butter! I will try to put up some id requests soon, in between bubs requirements, to see what i can pick and cool with.

Good luck to all with rest of the season, should be a long one.

Peace.

howdy ho newbie and welcome. Yeah im down with all kinds of fungi espec edibles. The bruising is not an indicator of anything realy uoless its a gymnopilus sp in which case they bruise a green color because they are yellow however their reportidly not active in SA anyway and are very bitter taste and contain very little psilocybin i think youd have to consume upto 25grams dried?? Not too sure on that tho. Too bad cause they grow in abundance lol
