I Went out for a hunt today and had some awesome finds. Got a really good haul

As I was leaving the place it pissed down with rain for a bit  all good signs. This season's really kicking in me thinks .

I believe the following is deadly galarena(sp??) sp... Can anyone confirm?

Found that lone specimen about 30cm away from a small patch of subs. Careful lads!

I'm having some problems with my subs from a week ago! I thought they were dry, they felt dry and they turned brittle 'cracker' dry after i had a fan blowing on them on low heat. I have just gone to look a them and they are now floppy and slightly moist with dead maggots surrounding them. I had stored them wrapped up in foil and put in a zip lock sandwich bag. Does anyone else have this issue? Are they still ok to eat or will they make you sick?

if the maggots are only in the stem, you might be able to cut away and save the healthy parts of the cap and make sure theres no maggots left. Chuck the rest unless you want to drink or chew maggoty shrooms.

Personally I would just chuck em, depending on the severity of the maggots and how long they been sitting like that.
Got to make sure there 100% dry before storing next time and watch out for the wrigglys.

Yeah maybe I didn't do it for long enough :frown:

Has anyone tried freezing them before? Surely that would preserve the Psilocybin?

Nothing you want to eat in that lot.  Some Mycena, Laccaria and something else that I am not sure what it is I think.

Cheers buddy, bin they go. From what I've read on here id assume a white/creamy stem (few cm wide) and gills, with a creamy smooth brown cap + blue bruising will lead to a victory?
The forecast is telling me less then 15 degrees for the next fortnight, cheering!

How can we see anything in such a shit-house photo? Heh heh

Nah.. seriously: I hear what you're sayin' man, they're sneaky buggers. I keep seeing the odd one near patches of subs, makes me super cautious.

Anyone have any idea what sort of volume one would have to consume in order to get a dangerous / lethal dose of the toxin?

yeah photos wack as man just took it quickly just to show how much the resemble. Next time i find some il take some better pics for all to see. Not sure on how many one would have uo consume, i jtst thought eating just one cap would be lethal. Indeed they are sneaky thats why its always good to ID all fungus found especily those in big clusters and pacthes

Yea, I pay very close attention to every single specimen picked - both in the forest and at home. Can be a very tedious task after a while.

On a side note, I tried Lactarious Delicioucus for the first time tonight. Fried up a small / young specimen with some onion and some garlicy / asian sauce. Not much, but enough to get a bit of a taste - quite yummy I thought.

always better to be safe than sorry eh! Does pay to be cautios tho one wrong fungi and thats it, however doesnt mean that it  the whole experience and hunting has to be scary as the media plays iu out0to be just do research and wary and you'll be fine lol no shit man ive always wanted to try em myself. Would buy em but why hahaha

Yeah for sure, guess its the medias job to try and scare the hell outa people :S

You'd have to be silly to not get them ID'd, would be so much more handier to go hunting with someone that knew what they were looking for though.

Do many people do mock up habitats in the back yard? if so how has it worked out? If i ever find some wouldn't mind making a spore spray or something and get it cranking in a few more places.

yeah thats it eh. Ive never tried this myself but i know people who have and they all had good results. I am starting one of these projects with my mate this year only making different beds with different substrates in each and including some wild mycelium in some and others with a spore water spray and so fourth. No harm in trying right? And so what if you dont succeed any experience is good experience:smile:

Oh nice good luck to you both! let us know how you go, gotta love the experiments  I've looked through some of the sites that sell spore prints, contemplating if i should get a patch going out the back, would be good to have a nice variety in a controlled environment.

Yeah completely agree with the experience. Neg experience is just another thing you can tick off the list of what's win and what's fail, still learning something so its still a win in a way.
