This is the best and only video of identifying subs/galerinas i've seen on the internet. Highly recommended you watch it! Watch the whole documentary for a laugh anyway, it's a good watch.

While were on the subject of subs & galerinas. I found these in the hills today. Thought I'd found my first subs but we're having a hard time ID them.

Mixing up Subs and galerinas usually isn't a problem. All my subs end up completley deep blueish in colour after about a day. Went out to the usual patch an found 50ish today. Looks like the subs are starting to come out in bigger numbers but the pins still defiantly outnumbered the mature speimens.
With storage,im planning on consuming my pickings from this saturday next sunday. Could I just chuck them in the freezer for a week w/o losing much potency as I can't be bothered drying them if they are all gonna be eaten by next week.

^^^ They shouldn't lose any potency in the freezer, BUT!!! you will have to use them immediately after you take them out of the freezer, either by slurping on frozen ice cube shrooms (which is nasty) or by dumping the STILL FROZEN mush into a pot of water and making tea.
If you let them thaw after freezing while still fresh they will turn into a disgusting black goo of mess which I doubt you will want to consume. and BTW just so you know aswell, dried subs will freeze and thaw out just fine, and not undergo any noticeable change in potency. This is the ideal way to store mush. Dry em, jar em, freeze em.

I'd say fan-dry them or make the tea straight away, store in a glass jar in the fridge and consume next week.

well ive read that providing they get consumed within a short period of time just chucking the fresh fungus in honey will keep their potency much better than that of freezing them or evening keeping in fridge but i havent tried either of those methods before so i couldnt tell you from my own experience im sorry but give the honey a whirl

it may preserve them but eating freshies in honey? would make me
Dried, powderized and then in honey I could stand, still not preferred, but I don't reckon I could eat (week old) fresh mush dipped in honey, could be just me though. have you tried the honey method for dried ones before LOTG?
I've had tea, (that is just the water, not made into tea with milk or anything) stored in the fridge in a tightly shut glass jar for up to 3 weeks before, and in the freezer it would probably last much longer.

Went on my first mushroom hunt yesterday. As such, i'm still quite new to the experience.
I didn't find much of use, but there were a couple that i thought looked quite similar to subs without checking all the boxes. I decided i wasn't confident enough with them to bother keeping them.

Those first two pics are the same mushroom, btw. Is it a sub?

Thanks AusTrip. My intuition seemed to agree. But what is it that tells you its not a sub?

orangey cap, rusty brown gills, no blue bruising anywhere but especially on the stem. I'm guessing the stem was hollow and brittle? as in it broke apart easily when you picked it?
Subs are generally a little more yellow-gold in the cap, but can be fairly close to the cap in pic 1 SOMETIMES. generally there much more yellow then orange on the scale of GOLD. lol. The stem is fairly chunky and wont break that easily at all most of the time, sometimes there tough as hell actually.
The gills of subs are creamy in colour when young, to a dark brown in older specimens. it's nothing like the rusty brown of those gills though as you'll learn once you see more subs.
Blue bruising is the most important factor of all, as it is the oxidization of the active chemical, that will occur as you bruise the surface of the specimen usually really quickly but sometimes over 5-20 minutes later.
