Nice tall looking subs, Slyfox. Love it when they are like that, makes them easy as to spot.

I keep finding the same mushrooms, and it's annoying me! I don't know what they are, so have posted an ID request here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14513588
Let me know what you lot think they are!

Cheers for the help on ID Lucas and LOTG!
I can't wait to ind my first sub! Looks like a nice batch there ^^
Do you have to look really hard and rummage around and lift up the mulch, leaves and bark etc? Or are they near mulch but in a more clear opening / bare patch of soil?

No you don't have to lift up anything, except the shroom once you cut the stem . they will grow through the grass, mulch, branches, etc. woodchip ones are generally in clear openings but normally no you have to check under bracken, blackberries, etc. sometimes they grow right next to pine trees in the pine needles. sometimes hidden in grass, sometimes from mossy soil. could go on for ages, they take advantage of many ecological niches. the best way to find out is look at lots and lots of photos from previous SA threads. remember a picture is worth a thousand words.

They are pretty sturdy mushrooms, they will push their way up through all sorts of stuff, either they are there or not. Pretty much if you are looking in the right habbitat and they are there, you will see them.

noworries mate well in my experience i dont have to look hard at all, i just go for a walk around the hills just checking garden beds, parks, and trails and they seem to just jump out at me lol but i suppose i have an eye for em more or less but i dont find that people do look WAY too hard for them. i myself used to back a few years ago and now ive gone back to those spots for like 6years ago that we had spent hunting with better knowledge and had found heaps right in the most obvious spots lol but trust me oonce you get that first lucky break you will start to do way better and probably get a better understanding of what your doing. hope this is useful and goodluck hope to see some actives from you soon

Cheers for all the advice everyone! I reckon i have a good idea of the habitat now. I'm literally surrounded by the ideal growing conditions LOL.
I suppose it's like anything, the more experience under your belt, the more natural it gets!

despite the amount of rain we have been having, today's hunt was rather disappointing. No pins in sight, and a total haul of only 16. but they are some very nice looking shrooms, and it was nice to get out in the forest. definitely need to find me some more spots tho, our usual 4 hour hike was over in an hour. here's a picture of my favorite 3.
Peace and happy hunting.

Nice pictures lord of the gnomes :P (sincere, not sarcasm)
I'm still waiting for the first week of June till I head out again, spending $100 on petrol isn't something I can do every week

Also headed out south yesterday. Disappoining haul of 20ish. Only happened to find subs in extremly wet and dark spots, not out in the open like this spot usually produces.

Sooooooooo it seems the thread got back on topic finally haha. thank god!
Just went through the thread and was looking at every ones hauls, and no offense but i seem to be the only one getting hauls of a large size. It got me thinking how is this possible when i never go to forest, I don't rape patches and i never over pick, and yet the tally count for this year is well into the thousands....and then it hit me....
I don't rape patches, I respect them and treat them with a bit of TLC and whaddya know, I'm rewarded like a boss!
The big secret spot i go to to get my big hauls is actually a personal project from last year, spots were so badly damaged i went out and started introducing spores into areas. It's sad that now days i get all my fungi from a man made spot, because everyone seems to disrespect the areas and the whole art of Hunting....
Just a bit of food for thought...next time you're out there before you jump into the patch and rape it like it's going out of fashion, sit down for a minute, observe the mystical magic of the fungi, and then slowly start to harvest....yes harvest not rape.
I really feel disappointed nowadays when i go out because it's a shocking scene half the time, and from everyone else ruining patches i know don't even want to go out with people to hunt because I'm scared they'll either steal my spots or ravage them, no one has the same mutual respect anymore, and it sucks!
To tell the truth I'm well over it all, i was out a couple of days ago and found 4 kids raping patches literally pulling clusters out of the dirt, ripping up mycelium beds, and just making a big fucking mess of the area, and then to top it off i found another spot later on even more damaged, when i approached them i was told to fuck off, lol and i proceeded to explain to them how i will bury them and that will be that. Lord of the gnomes these were the spots we looked at last week too. So even worse it's not just my spots it's other members on here.
So I think this will be my last post, I'm having a problem of wanker friends coming on here to try find out where my spots are and it's shitting me no end, if someone could help me maybe make it so you need to be a member to view my posts that would be awesome. I'm just not vibing the community anymore.
ANYWAYYYYYY....that's the end of my rant, went for a nice pick last night whilst i was tripping, wicked night for it, better for the fungi though
Here's the damage, the first two photos were some that went through with backhoes? and this was a really viable spot, i always took the noobs here cause it was so healthy, and very public, but no it's all been messed up now.

Ripped and raped shrooms...

Found these sexy little things in the EXACT same spot i found some last year, i referenced it to last years photos and it is spot on hahah

And here's last nights haul

Very healthy haul indeed, easily a few hundred there. Would have absoloutely loved to take some photos of the patches because there were patches of 20-30 all growing off a single cluster....it was beautiful but far too recognizable to chuck up here.
Peace me fellow trippers!
