If you can get pictures of the base, post it up here and on Mushroom Observer, you should probably get an ID I think.

Hi Everyone!

I've started reading this board only recently in the past week. A fun experience at a party last weekend has prompted me to do some research on mushrooms, and here I am!

I have already bought some books which were recommended by this site to help me identify ones I find. I am so eager that I've got a couple of mates to come hunting with me this weekend.

I see this is a thread for inactives and it looks like plenty have been found. Do the active mushrooms tend to start a bit later in the year?

Many of the finds in this thread are actives (in fact the majority) The S.A. thread has started a tradition of mixing the two casue they are slack buggers.

You are looking for Psilocybe subaeruginosa, do as much research as you can including this and the other Australian threads.  Then go hunting and post you finds.

Good luck.

lol not tryna be rude but are you blind their pretty much all subs, altho i can understand where ya went wrong being called the "SA in-actives thread" and all but its also technicly the SA actives thread aswell, not sure why tradition maybe?? but both are welcome:smile: so do abit more research and start hunting and getting some flicks uploaded and happy :mushroom2:hunting:grin:

Yeah I pretty much went by the title of the thread. I just looked back through the previous pages and now see there have been a lot of actives found; nice one!

Hopefully I will come back with some goodies to show off after the weekend. Does anyone have any tips they would like to share? I know not to pull them out by the roots, but carefully snip them so they have a chance of growing back next season.

Hopefully the books I have bought (due this Friday) will have some good pictures of the active mushrooms found in South Australia so I don't go picking the inactive ones and spoil the scenery for others!

You seem to have a good understanding of the basics, but there are other little things like always leaving the pins (small unopened cap mushrooms) so that they have a chance to drop the spores so they can regrow. As for finding good locations to hunt in i like opening google maps on the satellite setting and finding areas of forest out in the hills, i often find areas close to some kind of water source often yields results, but is not required in any way. Happy hunting

only actives here mate are psilocybe subaeruginosa. Great to know you know to cut them:thumbup: alot of people dont seem to know this.my tip is to suss grassy areas in native bushland and parks and low lying grassy areas of  pine forest and wood chipped garden beds hope this is helpful and goodluck. Oh and please remember to always leave the pins lol

Lord of the gnomes, please get a better camera or learn to focus. I'm hardly the best photographer but those last pictures are almost useless :/
For example don't stand up and take a photo with one hand, it's gonna turn out blurry as fuck, instead kneel down and support your camera using your other arm. I personally lie on the ground and support both my elbows on the ground for stability.

I appreciate your contributions but it pains me to see those photos. You couldn't tell those mushrooms from an LBM yet they're labled as subaeruginosa. If a newbie saw your photos they may mistake an LBM for a sub.

Sorry for being grumpy.

Herro, new here. Haven't posted before but I normally head out with LeviathanBaphomet and take photos along the way. I think he posted some I took last year- Anyway!
We went out with a few other mates and came back today with a good 90 freshly-delicious subs.

Photos!

(inactive)

Can't wait to go back out and take more photos
