are my prints ruined?
    #14167722 - 03/22/11 11:55 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

so i had 6 caps in an air tight container for prints. apparantly they were in there too long, tiny bits of white fuzzy mold had formed on the tops of the caps. ive always heard to discard molded mushrooms. cant i just wipe it of?? but my main question is are my prints possibly ruined now?

also, if agar is stored properly how long is it usable?

how long were they in the container...you always want some air to be able to get in so this doesn't happen

and which are you talking about powdered/stick agar, or agar thats already mixed and sterilized.

Mushroom mycelium, possibly?

In any case, dirty prints are still fine to use, as long as you've got agar for working with them.  For example, a print from a wild cap will likely have all kinds of shite on it.

they were probably in the container for 48, close to 72 hours. i had forgotten about them. could be mycelium i didnt think of that. never had this happen and ive been taking prints this way for a couple of years now. maybe just a few hours too long in the container, ha. i scraped the white off the caps and am gonna go ahead keep em. i think we would all be dead by now if every little bit of contamination was lethal.

and the agar i have i bought from a sponser pre mixed and sterilized. it still looks the same as when i got it, which was about a year ago.

thats a really long time for ANY food perishable food product to be sitting out.. It may just be mycelium growing on the cap.. cant tell without pics.. but you never really want to leave any food products like that in the "danger zone".. you dont really need all that time for the spore prints either.. 48 hours is heeeellllaaa long.. lol
