Is dunk and roll necessary?

Is it necessary and if not how big of a difference does it make by not doing it? I'm out of vermiculite, and if it doesn't make a huge difference I won't go buy any. If it's drastic I'll make sure to put an order in. Thanks guys.

when you dunk, you're adding moisture back into the cake, and mushrooms are 90 percent water, so you do the math at how horrible your yeild will be if you dont do it..
as for verm, its like a casing on your cake, its added to help hold moisture in the cake its a must man, go spend 5 bucks on some verm.

Ok I'll do that. Was just curious because Some of the teaks I read said optional next to it. Thanks for the prompt response.

rolling the cakes in verm is optional but is highly recommended. i didnt dunk my cakes in verm and i had a rough time getting it to pin or fruit. it would only fruit on from the bottom where there was verm because it was getting enough moisture from it.

Verm will create a nice microclimate for growth formation....

This is what happens if you don't dunk and roll a rye cake. From my experiences I would recommend you getting verm and do the dunk and roll process.

It will also have TINY mushrooms....Misting won't do much for hydrating a cake...

again, no.
"few hours" is not enough. you want the cake to fully absorb all the water it can bc mushies are 90% water...the more water inside the better off you are
I dunk and leave them submurged for 12-18 hours...roll them in verm so that you can mist and keep them moist bc verm holds moisture

Don't understand what the problem is here.....Dunk the cakes for 24 hours, roll in the verm that you had in the oven for 30 minutes....I did a couple cakes with no verm and they didn't work out as well. Man up and do the job right the first time.....
