Hericium block recovery
    #14164751 - 03/22/11 01:52 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Hello all,

So I had my first successful non-oyster grow from agar>>fruit without contamination with a Hericium sawdust block. (yea for me!)

Now that the block appears to be done fruiting, what is the best way to recover it? The block is in a bag with the top cut off and has been in an indoor greenhouse at about 80-90% humidity for the last few weeks fruiting.

Thanks!

Offtopic a bit, but I was curious if you took any pictures?

Are you asking what to do to get a second flush or what to do with the spent block?

Pics and more specifics: I mixed 3cups hardwood pellets, 50g gypsum, 3cups water. Pasteurized/hydrated overnight. It was then loaded into a bag, with tyvek sleeve, PC'd for 90 min.

A day after the PCing I knocked it up with a quart of Hericium spawn.

These are the two biggest fruits I got off the block.

And I'm asking about getting the 2nd flush, please. But since you mention it, what do you do with your spent blocks? (I've been burying old Oyster blocks in our flower beds or spawning them to wild hairs like pampas grass.)

Oh, I dunked between flushes when I grew lion's mane and always got 3 flushes but the 3rd flush was pretty weak.

As far as what to do with spent blocks burying them is a good option, as is chipping them up and re-using them to grow compost lovers.
